Plus size fashion advise needed

Hi,
I'm in desperate need of fashion advise.
I'm a size 14/16 top and 18 bottom, so I have very chunky thighs. I'm attending a family wedding in February and will be seeing aunty's and cousins that I haven't seen since I was a size 12/14. I'm very conscious of my weight and compared to my family members, I'm going to look huge next to them...
I've totally lost my way with fashion, I'm 36 and 5.7", can you please give me some ideas on what I can wear that will make me look cool and trendy.

River Island do a good plus size range mainly online I think.

Go on ASOS they have a great selection of plus size clothing. They have a good mix of brands as well as their own brand which is also good quality. A midi dress and a nice pair of heels would be lovely I think!

M&S curve?

Kenworthington · 12/01/2019 19:06

A 14/16 on top isn’t plus sized at all and is easily catered for on the high street main lines. At your size a specialist plus sized clothing piece would drown you. For some reason the equivalent sizing is way bigger in the plus lines. So eg a 16 in new look core line will be much smaller than a 16 in the curve range. Anyway. Buy a dress in a size 14/16 with a flow LG out or loose skirt so it doesn’t matter for the bottom sizing. Some fancy ankle boots and a lovely little jacket and you’re good to go. I’m a size 16/18 and can’t wear plus size- it’s way too big and shapeless on me.

Thank you all so much for replying.
Yes you are right @Kenworthington I'm so out of proportion that I find it so difficult to dress for my shape. I like the idea of a midi dress with ankle boots, can I wear black tights with this do you think for an evening reception?
I shall have a look online this evening and order me a few dresses to try on.
Thank you x

What about some lacy tights or fishnets? Or tan your legs and bare them?

Another vote for ASOS curve range. Also probably worth checking Bravissimo clothing as they do some lovely dresses.

Dressing for pear shape hope link works

messyhousetidymind · 12/01/2019 22:56

Be careful with gathered midi skirts.

I was a pear shape until I hit middle age and an a line skirt looks much better.

Are the bottom of your legs good? If so I'd show them off

You sound like a friend of mine and she has a tiny waist. Her best outfits have tight tops with some sleeve (eg elbow sleeves), low necks and flowing skirts. Her ankles aren’t great so she also suits trousers with peplum-type tops.
