Help me choose a bag

WeeMadArthur · 09/01/2019 17:12

I’ve had a small windfall and I really want a lovely quality leather handbag that I can use daily. Ive always wanted an oxblood bag, but I think navy is also good for every day. I have seen two bags I like, can you help me pick, or suggest something similar that I would love? I like very simply detailed bags.

oxblood Michael Kors

navy Osprey Portofino

Coach? www.johnlewis.com/coach-edie-31-polished-pebble-leather-shoulder-bag/p3909064
The oxblood is reduced to £175

Georgiesgirl · 09/01/2019 17:19

Ooh out of stock. Sorry

WeeMadArthur · 09/01/2019 17:30

I do quite like like the Edie, shame it’s out of stock.

I prefer the style of the navy bag, but if you've always wanted an oxblood bag then that's something you've always wanted and a windfall is great for a treat.

linetta1 · 09/01/2019 17:33

coach website has a sale, worth a look

WeeMadArthur · 09/01/2019 17:44

God, I keep switching from one bag to the other. I’ve never spent this much on a bag before, I’m practically sweating at the guilt of it!

Check the logo on that Michael Kors one is straight - it looks wonky in the first pic to me. It's one of the things that really makes a bag look cheap and you see it even on pricey ones, sometimes.
I think you should get oxblood if that is what you really want. I'd look around for a bit longer though.

WeeMadArthur · 09/01/2019 18:36

You’re right, I never noticed that! I think I need to see them in the flesh but don’t live near anywhere that has them, so I think I’m going to order both and keep the one I like.

Smythson, Aspinal and Russell & Bromley have good sales on (50% +) at the moment - all have oxblood bags.

SpeckledyHen · 09/01/2019 18:47

Aspinal would be my choice .

lyinginthesundrinkingbubbles · 09/01/2019 18:55

Every time.

Do NOT buy MK for goodness sake, it's not an investment and they look cheap IMO.

WeeMadArthur · 09/01/2019 18:57

The Bayswater is lovely but unfortunately the windfall doesn’t stretch quite that far! Maybe one day!

WeeMadArthur · 09/01/2019 19:04

I’ve ordered both and will decide between then once they arrive. Hopefully one will suit, thanks for all your help.

If your budget's lower then as pointed out previously the Eddie is a good option.
It is on stock direct from Coach.

Also look at Kate Spade, and for a bit more Strathberry is also a good investment piece (if you can ignore the Megan Markle effect)

WeeMadArthur · 09/01/2019 22:14

Thanks lyinginthesun, I’m going to see if there are any Coach stockists near me so I can have a look at the bag, The Strathberry is a bit too structured for me, I’m looking for something a bit more slouchy.

It's worth keeping an eye on the Very Exclusive site. Most of the sale Coach bags have sold but there are the odd ones popping up daily that have been returned. I got a black Edie 31 for £210 yesterday. Still full price everywhere else. And 6 months interest free to pay it off if you like

WeeMadArthur · 10/01/2019 17:22

OOoh thanks Georgiesgirl, never heard of that site, will take a look now

Ooohh I love a bag thread!

OP, don't buy Michael Kors. There are much nicer, better quality brands around. I would go for oxblood rather than navy, it's a great colour and goes with everything.

Agree definitely look at Coach. Have you seen Strathberry bags? I have a pearl grey midi tote which I love, it comes in loads of colours.

I wouldn't go for a Mulberry bayswater either - people say they are very heavy.

twosoups1972 · 10/01/2019 17:38

Whoops, just saw your comments about Strathberry OP, that will teach me to read the thread!

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 10/01/2019 20:42

Please, don’t buy MK as a one-off very special bag. They are everywhere at the moment, which really cheapens a brand - You can’t walk ten steps without seeing ten girls using them as school bags, for example. They look fake even when they’re not, (things like the crooked logo, for example), and a lot of people find them quite cheap and tacky looking (not that that necessarily matters).

Have you checked the Outnet? Bit of a random selection but you can pick up some really good bargains, and there is a wide range of brands. I’m sure I’ve seen lots of Coach bags on there.

Russell & Bromley also do lovely, good quality bags. I haven’t looked at their current range, but it’s probably worth having a look.

Oxblood is a great colour and goes well with pretty much everything. If i had to pick out of those two colours I’d definiteky go with oxblood/burgundy - IMO it’s a little more interesting than navy, and more versatile.

Good luck with finding your perfect bag!

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 10/01/2019 20:48

Oh just saw you’ve already ordered both! Good luck - you can always keep looking if neither of them is quite right!

WeeMadArthur · 12/01/2019 20:41

The MK bag isn’t for me, undecided on the Osprey.

What do you think about this? Coach duffle

OP posts:
WeeMadArthur · 12/01/2019 21:12

Ah, or this in oxblood duffel oxblood

ChishandFips33 · 13/01/2019 02:10

I can vouch for the Coach Edie - there's an oxblood on eBay I think

The Coach Chelsea is nice too

There's a couple of FB groups specifically for Coach. Very helpful and often sell their nearly new bags for good prices. They'll be able to answer any questions too

ChishandFips33 · 13/01/2019 02:17

There are a few Scout Hobo oxblood bags on eBay too
