Recommend me a facial oil?

I was given an Elemis Superfood facial oil for Christmas, and I’ve been really enjoying using it. It smells lovely and feels like a real treat to use in the mornings.

Sadly, this morning my (horrible!) toddler got hold of the bottle and poured it all over himself Shock After a panic about whether he drank any (I don’t think he did, and it’s not poisonous anyway!) I’m now feeling very sorry for myself that my Christmas treat has gone.

I’m going to spend some of his inheritance replacing it - but I’m shocked by the price! £45 for 15ml?!? I just wondered if anyone could recommend something that still feels like a treat but maybe costs a little less? Bonus points if it might make my skin less grey and dead looking. Is the Clarins one any good? That’s less money for a 30ml bottle.

Thank you!

The sanctuary one smells lovely and I enjoyed using it but I prefer the Medik 8 one. But then I am a fan of those products

DamsonWhine · 08/01/2019 18:30

It’s rather depends on your skin type. But if you have dry or dehydrated skin I recommend both the Boots Botanics organic one (cheap) and also the REN rose defence one (not cheap but smells DIVINE).

Neals yard rose facial oil is a MN favourite
I've used it for years and wouldn't change to anything else, it smells so good, my skin loves it and it's £25 per bottle

ToftheB · 08/01/2019 18:53

Oh, thank you for your suggestions - I’ve wanted to try the Neil’s yard one for a while so that’s tempting. I’m off to have a google.

I like the Clarins Blue Lotus one. To be honest, I think a cheap bottle of Vitamin E capsules from Holland and Barrett would do the same job but the Clarins one smells lovely.

Greenmum2019 · 08/01/2019 18:57

Pixi rose oil is sooooo nice .... But £26. I am just trying a few diff ones made by 'ordinary skincare' and are way cheaper at average £6.

IamTheMeg · 08/01/2019 18:59

I love the Superdrug facial oil from the camomile range Smile honestly can't recommend it enough and it's very cheap- you could even buy one for your toddler to squirt everywhere!

Greenmum2019 · 08/01/2019 20:06

Thanks for the superdrug tip.... Gonna give it a try

SuperstarDJ · 08/01/2019 20:32

I’m not fussed on the Clarins ones - they’re a bit too heavy and greasy for my liking. My current favourite is the Pixi rose oil as recommended above.

QueenofLouisiana · 08/01/2019 22:57

I use one by Dauphin. It’s gorgeous.

mynameiscalypso · 08/01/2019 22:58

Agree with the Neal's Yard suggestion; I love it.

jaffacakesareevil · 08/01/2019 23:03

I have been using L'occitane Immortelle Reset since Xmas. I'd recommend it, think it was roughly £50 for 30ml.

DoraJar · 09/01/2019 18:20

I like the neals yard frankincense oil - but might try the rose oil next! The ordinary rosehip oil isn’t bad and very cheap!

BringMeTea · 09/01/2019 19:17

Well to add to the extensive mix I have just started with one I got in a beauty advent calendar. Prai rosehip oil. It is very good. Better than the Emma Hardie one I also got in an advent calendar and cheaper.

BringMeTea · 09/01/2019 19:20

Pai not Prai!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/01/2019 19:54

I've got a Clarins one - can't remember which it is without looking. It's nice and smells lovely, but I'm not sure I'd spend 30 something pounds on it again.

Laiste · 09/01/2019 20:33

Nuxe oil. Huile de prodigieuse (sp?)

You can get it in M&S. Small one is £15 i think. A little goes a long way and it's gorgeous! You'l love or hate the smell. Personally i could bathe in the stuff and smell nothing else as long as i live. But that's me Grin

windygallows · 09/01/2019 20:56

I love neals yard too but the frankincense oil. I've been using it for years and it's great for sensitive skin.

ToftheB · 09/01/2019 21:21

Thank you everyone. I’ve gone for the Neil’s Yard rose one - I had an M&S voucher so went and had a mooch around their beauty stuff this afternoon. I’m keeping a list of all of your suggestions for next time (hopefully this bottle will last longer than the last one!)

Grape seed oil: antioxidant, no perfume and light and doesn’t clog pores plus no preservatives, and about 4 quid
But your meals yard one is good too!

ToftheB · 09/01/2019 21:52

I know you're right really - I’ve got a big bottle of grapeseed oil that I use for oil cleansing and deep conditioning my hair. I imagine that these fancy oils are mainly carrier oils with nice smells added - but I really enjoyed having something that felt like a treat Smile and it does smell lovely!

Look on eBay. People (like me!) often buy the sets on qvc and sell they bits they don't want/use on eBay. You'll probably be able to pick up the superfood oil for about 20-25 pounds. Or keep an eye out on qvc (use the website) as they often have deals and sometimes have them on easy pays (split cost over 2/3/4 months).

Deathraystare · 10/01/2019 15:28

Well at least your little monster will have lovely skin!! Have you checked on QVC? They sometimes (seems to always) have offers on Elemis?
