Help - trousers to fit pear shape

ThisIsAQuestion · 07/01/2019 17:42

I'm a pear shape and have always had problems getting trousers to fit properly. For the past 10 years or so I've got round this by wearing dresses for work which flare over my hips (and I look good in, I think!).

Now I have a new job and I need to wear black trousers. Where can I buy trousers which will be generous enough to accommodate my large bottom, hips and thighs, but won't leave a massive gap at the waist - especially at the back?

Just measured and my hips are 44 inches and waist about 32 inches.

Thanks if you can recommend anywhere to try - high street prices please.

My friend is very pear shaped and has a nice pair from Jigsaw?

OliviaBenson · 07/01/2019 18:24

Same issue here. They all seem to have those side pockets which just make me look even wider!

If it's any help I'm the reverse of pear shaped and have very straight up and down hips and find that Dorothy Perkins trousers always sit too wide on the hips on me and gape out a bit so maybe they would be a good brand for more pear shaped types?

ThisIsAQuestion · 07/01/2019 22:38

@OliviaBenson Oh the dreaded side pockets!

Thanks for the replies.
I know the best thing I could do would be to lose a bit of weight as the lighter I am the more in proportion I am.

Someone told me Monsoon cut for pears - I don’t know if that’s true but worth a look?

Alternatively, buy what you like and get them altered by your friendly alterations person, and get the dreaded side pockets sewn up while you’re at it. I hate those pockets too. And make sure you buy trousers with belt loops. That’s what I do. I was withered looking for well fitting trousers.

I'm also very pear shaped. Similar dimensions to you.

Boden trousers seem to work for me. The Chelsea and Richmond are the ones I seem to go back to.

Great question, I never wear trousers as I feel like they really accentuate my belly, I'm a size 16 too. Ages back I used to wear Banana Republic trousers for work, or Zara.

ThisIsAQuestion · 08/01/2019 06:53

Hmm, I think getting some altered may be the best thing.
Thanks for the suggestions. Flowers

Yep alterations or elasticated/half elasticated. Got some nice ones in COS a while back.

LucyFox · 08/01/2019 17:23

My work trousers come from Yours & Bon Marche & they have an elasticated back waist to help eliminate gape - an absolute must for me!
They are far from trendy but at the lower end of “high street prices” they make great basic trousers for work ...
