Just received new cotton knit top from Uniqlo, tried it on, decided to keep it, cut label off with scissors while still wearing it... only to cut a bit of the fabric too. I'm so annoyed at myself. I can't even find black thread in the house, not that I can sew anyway...

How annoying Angry
Could you wear a black vest top underneath it?

BadMoodBoard · 05/01/2019 15:46

That's not the issue really, the problem is that it's going to unravel. The cut is on the back of the neck.

You’re either going to need to learn how to sew or give it to someone who can.
Is it pure cotton? If it has an acrylic mix at all, you can probably hold the offending area over a flame and seal the frayed bits with your fingers to protect it from unravelling? Only as a last resort though if you really can’t do anything else with it!

I did this with a pair of socks, it's annoying isn't it

grownup2 · 06/01/2019 10:04

And why are the itchy labels on the back of the neck sewn on more securely than the buttons? A stitch ripper helps a bit but removing still needs extreme care.

Buy a needle and thread and see it up. It's easy really. It's not like sewing in a new zip.

I made a hole in a cotton/silk knitted dress as it was very thin/ delicate. I put clear nail varnish on the edges to prevent it unravelling further. Hardly noticeable with a slip under it. Sewing wouldn’t have been as good Smile.

Use iron-on mender. Or maybe even Wondaweb at a push. Any haberdashery or sewing shop will have it.
