Pinafore dresses - yes or no and what shoes?

I've seen a lot around at the moment and think I quite like them. What do you think? Should I go for it? Or are they awful? Would it look okay with tights and ankle boots?

I’m a size 16, 5ft and wear pinafore dresses all the time! I carry all my weight round my tummy so am an apple shape technically but have a small waist. I have them from new look, Dorothy Perkins, oasis, primarni...I love them!

I like them, but I look ridiculous in them - wish it were otherwise, but I'm very pear-shaped and find that they cling to my bum and make it look twice as big as it really is. I suppose if I went up two sizes it would hang instead of clinging, but then it would be hanging off my top half.

If I could pull it off, I would wear brogues or flat boots with a pinafore.

I have 3 and love them over roll necks, Bretons and even shirts. Always with flats as I don’t do heels. I’m a size 8, flat chested and athletic and it seems to suit my shape

I have this one: www.wearethought.com/bermilla-organic-cotton-pocket-pinafore-dress-kingfisher which I won in an instagram competition and have worn every week the last couple of months

And these ones in wine and green www.oliveclothing.com/p-oliveunique-20150916-001-wine-apron-dress-wine?utm_source=instocknotify&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=instocknotify
I like them with roll necks and Bretons now, but can see myself wearing them with a T shirt and trainers in the summer

My dd wears them. Plain, dark colours with a long sleeved top underneath, thick tights and chunky ankle boots or flat for lined boots.

CakeNinja · 05/01/2019 00:20

I bought a couple a few months ago from oasis but ended up returning them for a few reasons. My boobs ended up looking like they were escaping from either side, they ‘bend’ weirdly in the middle and because I wore a long sleeved top underneath them and the dresses were slightly looser, the tops rode up and they also made me look bulky.
All in all, I’m not averse to trying more but I probably need to drop a dress size or two before I have another go Grin

That simplybe pinafore linked to - how long is it in reality (I'm 5ft4)? Is the sizing fair or do you normally go up or down?

KittyLikesMagic · 05/01/2019 22:19

@sonjadog I'm 5ft2 with pretty big norks, it's just on the knee for me. I sized up to an 18 because they didn't have a 16 and I really wanted it, I think a 16 would have been a better fit.

KittyLikesMagic · 05/01/2019 22:20

Oh also, it has POCKETS! That pleased me greatly.

MulberryPeony · 06/01/2019 07:15

I ordered and returned a checked pinafore from New Look. Love the idea and style but Iooked bloody awful in it. It was fitted but no where near enough fitted at the waist. I reckon a skater style would suit me better but haven’t found anything close to the version in my head yet.

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 06/01/2019 07:23

Is this a pinafore or dungaree dress? I'd probably go for dungaree dress - either way I've enjoyed wearing it during pregnancy. Not sure I would have bought one pre-pregnancy but I will definitely Now after the baby is born. This was me a few months ago.

Pinafore dresses - yes or no and what shoes?

Thanks, Kitty. I've ordered it up!
