Outfit for an event - help!

I am attending an event next month at an art gallery. It's a private viewing of an artist's exhibition where there will be lots of wealthy people (I am going with the artist).

I've never attended an event like this before and I'm completely stuck on what I should wear. I was thinking either wide leg trousers with a shirt and heels or pleated skirt with knitwear and heels. I'm 5'9 size 12/14 and I carry my extra weight on my stomach/waist.

Here's what I was thinking:

Would these be OK? All ideas welcome :)

Both look lovely and I'm sure would look good on you. Only word of advice is to make sure you feel really comfortable in what you've chosen so you don't spend the evening worrying about it. So if possible wear the outfit around the house a bit beforehand so you know you can walk and hold a drink while wearing it!

Also, how lovely to be invited to such a fab event

Yes pleated skirt look.

Thanks soover, I am looming forward to it!

I probably will go with the skirt but trousers do appeal in February!
