Midi dress and boots = bare legs?

Want to wear my midi dresses (which I wore in the summer, shirt dress style, neutral colours/black) in the winter with leather biker jacket and boots. Looking for style inspiration on Insta and Pinterest but they all have bare legs?! I only have ankle boots (which look great in the pics I’ve seen), but will I look odd with black tights?

This is the sort of look...but I hate being cold Grin

For that outfit...

Black tights winter
Bare spring summer autumn

Betty777 · 02/01/2019 22:21

I also love the look. It looks best with bare legs but looks almost as good with tights (and not really an option at the mo to go without)
Just avoid light colours that look odd with black tights

Great thanks! Might try it tomorrow!

Darker tights in winter, natural tights in spring/autumn, bare in summer.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 02/01/2019 23:40

But I’d only wear black tights with darker colours. If it won’t look right with blabk tights I’d wear it with natural tights and over the knee boots, or I’d wait til spring-autumn.

I'm enabling here but another option would be lovely new knee boots Grin

Molton the last thing I need is more shopping!!! I’m just not really into knee highs...have a large selection of ankle boots/calf length biker style in back and tan so that’ll have to do!

Depending on the length of the dress on you and how much leg you want to show, have you thought about thermal leggings under the dress? I roll mine up /cut them shorter, so there's still a bit of bare calf before the top of the boots.

I've just got a pair of fleece-lined footless tights (leggings, right?) from TK Maxx to cut shorter.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 03/01/2019 11:50

Sighhhhhh I need a another lovely pair of knee highs. Chocolate Brown or burgundy.

Bare legs in January? In the UK? Shock This is one of the reasons why I gave up on Pinterest and went back to watching real people.

I'm not wearing dresses much at the moment but when I did, it was with boots and opaques, but not always black which I agree can look a bit harsh sometimes. I normally preferred grey or navy.

jessstan2 · 03/01/2019 11:54

Nothing worse than cold blotchy legs. Would look fine with dark tights.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 03/01/2019 11:56

Flo I can just about do bare ankles but that’s it for me!

SimplyPut · 03/01/2019 11:58

Thick black opaque or knit tights in winter.

SwedishEdith · 03/01/2019 12:03

Fishnets?

IsadoraQuagmire · 03/01/2019 14:33

I wear a lot of midi dresses and skirts with boots, and always have bare legs in the winter, I hate tights.
My legs don't feel cold at all. With a midi length, there's not much exposed skin anyway.

IsadoraQuagmire · 03/01/2019 14:34

I should maybe add that I live in central London, where it's not the coldest of climates.

Betty777 · 03/01/2019 15:23

Also fishnets with midis are a bit less harsh than black opaques, when it's not super cold.
Note - I'm also in central London ;-)

In fashionland, yes.
IRL, no.

GraceMarks · 03/01/2019 15:42

Depends where you live, but I think bare legs in mid-winter are really for people who don't have to go out much. It seems to be very much a London fashionista sort of thing! There's absolutely nowt wrong with black opaques when it's cold enough to warrant them, and you certainly shouldn't have to suffer in order to look nice.

Pinkvici22 · 03/01/2019 16:33

Thanks for all the advice. I tried black opaques with biker boots and it didn’t work (I think you need to be taller and thinner?). Maybe it’d work better with boots with a heel?

Anyway DD did not approve so I stuck with my skinnies, slouchy jumper and biker boots...Confused
