Can you zip your biker jacket up?

I have been looking for one for ages and they never seem to fit properly. I ordered one online and love the look and fit but I would have to wear it open as the diagonal zip thingy makes it crazy tight! My friend had advised me to size down and says she can't zip hers. Is this the key to getting a good fit? Thanks in advance.

I can. I have a whistles one and I think it has a stretchy panel under the arm that you can’t really see but that helps it give a bit. It be very fitted. Have had it years and I’m glad of it if it’s cold!

I can, and I do when it's cold

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 02/01/2019 22:38

my "going out" out one wouldn't zip but that's cos i am a heifer.

my "going on dh's motorbike" one will zip but makes me look like Jeanclaude VanDamme in silhouette because of the shoulder/elbow protection. Which is why I wear inappropriate heeled boots, so no one thinks I am a burly bloke.

Yes, it has come in useful in the cold and rain.

I can just about do it up but wouldn’t wear it out like that.

carrie74 · 02/01/2019 23:03

Why would one want to? Never, never, never do up the zip!

Ellapaella · 02/01/2019 23:14

I can do mine up but I'm not sure I like the look of it zipped up. I also find it flattens my boobs in not a very flattering way. I just wear it open. If it's chilly I wear with a big scarf or over the top of a chunky knit.

LaurenOrdering · 02/01/2019 23:26

Yes can zip mine up if needed, though I usually wear it unzipped unless it happens to be 0 degrees or raining/snowing.
I did size up.

I think they look ok zipped up to under the boob and probably not higher.... well on me anyway since I’m a 36G with a smaller waist. I did get one jacket altered by a leather specialist ( one that my DH bought that I hadn’t tried on) to improve the fit. I think more Women should consider getting stuff tailored - particularly if you are not a “ shop sample” standard shape or size.

BusterTheBulldog · 02/01/2019 23:37

Yep, but I like the zipped up look too!

Ladybirdbookworm · 02/01/2019 23:52

I watched Trinny on youtube last week and she put a size 14 lady in a size 10 biker jacket. Her advice was that if the arms are a good fit wear it as tight as possible and don't worry about ever doing it up.

sammy891 · 02/01/2019 23:55

That explains why they never look good on me, I have been sizing up to get the zip to close but when I wear it open the jacket looks too loose and out of place.

IamFrauBlucher · 02/01/2019 23:56

I can zip mine but it turns my huge boobs into a solid loaf of bread and then the bottom of the jacket gapes as I don't have hips. I too use the big scarf and open jacket method. Grin

minipie · 02/01/2019 23:58

Yes I can and I do wear it done up quite often. I get cold easily! I’m petite though and boobs are 30D which is not very large.

My arms are fatter than my torso relatively speaking so if I can get one on over my arms, I will definitely be able to do up the zip.

sizzledrizz · 03/01/2019 01:00

I can but very tight over my boobs, so I don't.
