Work shoes - help needed!

What 'smart' shoes do you wear for work??? I would live in flat boots and trainers but need something smarter for work. I can't do 'high heels' but feel like flats aren't enough for work as they make me feel small and less professional. Teacher so on my feet all day and need to be comfortable. Tend to wear slim/cigarette trousers rather than tights/skirt. Anyone recently bought something suitable? Budget up to £50 probably

I’m a teacher and wear flats. Vivo barefoot shoes mainly

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/01/2019 19:31

I tend to wear flats or low heels to work (too old / can't be bothered to wear high heels.....these days only admin staff wear high heels in my industry) but nothing I can suggest in your budget, sorry!

babysharkah · 01/01/2019 19:32

I wear Clark's brogues.

peachypetite · 01/01/2019 19:32

Loafers?

whataboutbob · 01/01/2019 19:35

MrsHaaHoo · 01/01/2019 20:21

Clark’s brogues.
I have some Hambke Oaks and some chunkier ones.

MrsHaaHoo · 01/01/2019 20:34

Any mid heel recommendations - I'm only five ft and a bit, mid forties

Another with the Hamble Oaks Smile

Betty777 · 01/01/2019 20:38

Agree with PP, loafers look great with cigarette pants/trousers. There are lots of variations/price points at the moment and many which are chunky and would give you some height.
Nice grown up alternative that looks fashion-forward but not overtly so. Try Office for affordable ones

CaptainPovey · 01/01/2019 20:43

I have a pair of these and also other shoes of this heel height georgeous

CaptainPovey · 01/01/2019 20:44

Oh and I am ...ahem 52 Grin

LadyFairfaxSake · 01/01/2019 21:14

Professional is as professional does, heel height is irrelevant. Try Bass Weejuns - really comfy, stylish loafers in a variety of colours & they're having a sale atm.

covetingthepreciousthings · 01/01/2019 21:22

I'm on my feet all day and have to wear smart shoes, I got a pair of patent brogues from M&S, they've been one of the most comfortable shoes I've owned.

Heratnumber7 · 01/01/2019 21:25

Currently wearing flat brogues from M&S

Boyskeepswinging · 01/01/2019 21:28

Another vote for Clark's brogues. I have both the Hamble and the new chunky ones. Both are as comfy as wearing trainers (I do a lot of walking in my job) and look super smart. The chunky ones are dead on trend with cigarette trousers.

homebirds · 01/01/2019 22:04

Hotter Joy - everyone laughed but they're brilliant with trousers - best thing I've bought

Babysharkdoodoodoodo · 01/01/2019 22:07

I live in my DMs and leggings under a dress or tunic.
Ecco sandals in the summer.

MrsHaaHoo · 01/01/2019 22:12

Off to try brogues and loafers tomorrow then - they always look fab on other people so will see if I can carry them off

Boyskeepswinging · 01/01/2019 22:23

Don't see why not ... I have a colleague who is a similar height to you and a decade older and looks fantastic in chunky brogues (she gave me the confidence to wear them myself).

ShortandSweet96 · 01/01/2019 22:25

I have to wear crocs cries internally for 40 hours a week
