40th birthday haircut ideas

Name changed as am posting a photo that could be identifying! About to turn 40 and in two weeks will be going holiday of a lifetime so want to look and feel as confident as possible. I have my hair appointment booked for next week, I'm rubbish at getting my haircut so usually only have it done once a year.
I've had it short before but the last time I had it in a bob, I felt so frumpy and couldn't wait to grow it out. My hair is naturally very thick, frizzy and unmanageable so has a tendency look a bit mushroomy the shorter it is. Short layers are also a no no as they bounce up. It's far easier to manage longer as the weight pulls it down. I therefore don't want too much off the length but I do want to inject some style. I'm considering asking for a blunt cut on the ends? Would that work? Ideas and inspiration please!

Tea cosy perm or a mum bob.

I’d keep the length, or go to shoulder. And have highlights put in

How about taking it up to you armpits (so 2inches?) And have some soft balayage highlights pulled through so it will grow out gently and you don't get a line as it's growning out.
