They have had some monstrosities the last few years, but I have recently bought these three tops from them and I'm not kidding they are gorgeous on and great quality. Great with jeans for going out, or with trousers for work. I've not bought from them for years, so thought I'd share.

Definetly worth a look even if these aren't your thing,,,,

This is more bronze than the picture shows:

This looks way more expensive than it is and the colours are quite muted :

This is just great on,

Anyway, as said these might not be your thing, but they have some decent stuff in again,,,,

Polyester isn't exactly environmentally friendly either, is it?

Apileofballyhoo · 30/12/2018 11:50

Though I do like the style and colours of the tops, OP. Silk would be beautiful.

RatRolyPoly · 30/12/2018 11:59

I suspect polyester is more environmentally friendly than silk, which personally I'd never be seen wearing on account of the production process. Bleeding heart that I am.

I think I'll give M&S a good look around after this thread, having avoided it for years now. And just in time too as they've closed my local House of Fraser and other options are limited.

carrie74 · 30/12/2018 12:17

Silk would be great, but I guess they're trying to do fashion at a competitive price point. All the other High St retailers are doing polyester (and some shops -Whistles- at a much higher price point).

However I personally would be more likely to buy these blouses of silk at a higher price than the low-priced polyester.

Ellapaella · 30/12/2018 12:48

Love the two round neck blouses.. really lovely. Not so keen personally on the one with leaf print, looks more like typical M & S.
Every now and then I can find a little gem in M & S, it's not all bad. I like their denim.

Badadadum · 30/12/2018 15:22

I like those flatform shoes - the blouses would be a big no...shiny fabric makes my boobs look like they wobble too much when I move...that never looks good in poly or silk.

lindyloo57 · 30/12/2018 17:01

I was in there today, and got the per una faux fur animal print coat, the last one on the rail, that have sold out before christmas for £39. well happy.

Snowdrop30 · 04/01/2019 21:03

Good to hear they might be turning a corner. I am pulling my hair out about where to find good quality basics in natural fibres and nice colours, which wash well (there, don't I sound middle aged?) Quality T shirts, work shirts, jeans....

Oly4 · 04/01/2019 21:48

Some of their stuff is hideous but I agree there are gems! I also loved the colours they had for cashmere this year. And I always find the leather shoes good quality

goose1964 · 05/01/2019 02:10

Lots of you moaning about polyester but do you know what damage your water intensive cotton is doing to the environment?

RogueV · 05/01/2019 02:26

Love that dress

CountFosco · 05/01/2019 07:00

There is no fabric that doesn't have issues. Polyester etc is made from oil. Fur, silk and a lot of wool is cruel. Cotton is water intensive. Viscose etc has an atrocious ebvironmental impact.

The reality is that disposable fast fashion is the issue. So if people choose to buy clothes at a higher price point but buy less often then yes, that is the better option.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2019 08:07

To be honest, maybe I'm not so environmentally friendly, but I've no issue with polyester, for me it's more about the style, cut and feel when it's on....
