Making something new from old jewellery..and aibu?

I have a couple of pieces of jewellery that were presents (from my parents) that I will never wear, a ring that I’ve had for 25 years and earrings for about 10 years.
They have lovely diamnonds in them and I’m so tempted to make a new ring using the metal and stones.
I just feel guilty about going ahead!! Am I wrong to consider it? Should I ask them if they mind?
On the flip side can I see what others have had their old jewellery made into also 😊

I had some old gold made into 2 bangles many years ago
Recently I had a diamond ring and some other scrap gold donated by DM and DD into a matching diamond set bangle
I love them

I think it's a lovely idea.

I had old jewellery, gold necklace, made into a ring with some new gems. It was my nand necklace which I would never have worn but now I wear the ring daily. I had it done in the jewellery quarter

Ok I’m going to do it..my mum every so often says ‘you better not have sold that ring I got you, I never see
You wear it ’ Shock and never believes me when I tell her it’s still sitting In my
Jewellery box!

It just seems such a waste.
Right I’m going to get on it on the holidays Smile

Yes, for my 40th my Mum paid to have some jewellery I had been gifted by her and my Grandmother into a dress ring. She said it was nicer knowing they were being worn and loved than stuck in a draw.
