Has anyone purchased an expensive bag from eBay?

Looking at Chanel bags on eBay, and debating if it's safe to order from there Grin. Has anyone had a bad experience doing so, or are they generally legit?

They are not generally legit. I'm sure there are authentic bags on eBay, the problem is that it can be difficult to tell real from fake. There's a list of trusted eBayers on My Poupette (I think it's a bit old though): mypoupette.com/mprs.php If you can get all the correct photos from the seller you can ask for help on Purse Forum: forum.purseblog.com/

Oh thank you, that's really helpful

WanderingTrolley1 · 28/12/2018 08:43

No. I wouldn’t risk it, tbh.

Xmastummyhasgonebig · 28/12/2018 08:45

There lots for around £2000 Shock

I was wondering surely they wouldn't get away with selling fakes?

Ditto to the advice from MrsDe . Alternatively buy from a reputable reseller such as Labels Most Wanted - or ask them to source what you are looking for.

I think Vestiare has used bags and they are much stricter about verification. They also come up in real auctions, look on The Sale Room or Invaluable.

ChishandFips33 · 28/12/2018 09:15

Naughtipidgins Nest is also reputable

Bigonesmallone3 · 28/12/2018 09:24

Don't do it..
there's only one reason why that may appear to be the best price around

Op there are superfakes which are such good copies they need expert in-person authentication: forum.purseblog.com/threads/beware-of-the-super-fakes.852787/

I see a lot of eBay bags informally authenticated on PF and they are often real, but it can be a tricky process. You have to submit very specific photos and they don't authenticate the lines which are known for good fakes. It can take time, so you may not get a reply in time.

MyPoupette is also meant to be good, but it's too pricy to just have them look at every bag you're considering.

I'd go with NPN as pp suggested. Vestiare don't get good Trustpilot reviews and I've read a lot of negative feedback on PF. Some trusted resellers come up if you do a MN search.

I’ve had a few Mulberry and Chloe bags from eBay, always get them authenticated as soon as I receive them. I paid with PayPal and if they come back from authentication as fake (only happened once) I returned with no issues - eBay/PayPal always sides with the buyer.

I have sold a lot of Chanel on Ebay over the last 10 years (used to have a serious designer habit before children and reality set in!)
My advice would be to get really familiar with the brand, check out YouTube tutorials on spotting fakes, check with My Poupette and finally, do the usual checks on the seller (such as previous feedback/have they got multiple listings etc.)
Chanel bags come with a serial number hidden deep in the bag, along with a hologram CC logo, which should correspond with its credit card sized authentification card. The very vintage ones (pre-1980's) don't have this by the way.
This serial number corresponds with the year and season the bag was produced, so if you Google the number, you can do an extra check on its age.
Little things like the inside of the bag-should have a grosgrain interior or smooth leather, CC logo hardware and correctly interlocking CC's. Bags are generally made either in France or Italy and will say so inside on an interior zip pocket.
Finally, if the price seems cheap, be very careful. Chanel bags hold their value well and I have never sold a used one of mine for less than £800.
The grainy 'caviar' leather bags are more hard wearing (calfskin) and harder to fake, whereas the classic smooth lambskin flap bag is sadly much copied.
Good buys (not absolute bargains) can definitely be had-certainly from me!-but you're right to be cautious. Good luck!

I have bought and sold top end designer bags fairly regularly on eBay. I could possibly help you if there is a bag that you have seen, if you adhere to eBay and PayPals guidelines you can’t go wrong OP.
Please PM me if I can help you at all.
I would avoid VC as they’re always top prices as they take 30% in fees.. what bag is it you are after! X

BifsWif · 28/12/2018 18:37

I bought a Mulberry bag last year, brand new with tags. Had it authenticated, it was fine.

VamillaSugar · 28/12/2018 18:38

Interesting thread. I have a Mulberry clutch bag which I never use. At the risk of hikacking the thread, is it best to eBay it or use the aforementioned websites?

Wowserme · 28/12/2018 18:38

I can also point you in the right direction to get the bag authenticated in the U.K.
I always do this to be 100% certain that the bag is authentic x

KitKat1985 · 28/12/2018 18:38

I wouldn't risk it personally.

Wowserme · 28/12/2018 18:39

I would sell Mulberry on one of the Facebook forums, zero commission and very simple x

Wowserme · 28/12/2018 18:40

There really is no risk involved if you do everything correctly!

VamillaSugar · 28/12/2018 23:07

Cheers.

ChishandFips33 · 29/12/2018 20:01

these guys are on a group I'm on and have a sale on Chanrl

Finsbury · 29/12/2018 20:20

I've bought a new Coach bag and a second hand Mulberry from Ebay - had both checked out by helpful people on Purse Forum, and all was OK!

Mrs9C · 29/12/2018 21:15

Does anyone have a link to the FB group for selling Mulberry? I have a small Del Rey that I'd like to sell, hoped it would be my 'forever bag'', but we're not allowed to keep our bags with us at work, they need to be in a back room and I don't feel comfortable with that, so it's not getting the use I'd like out of it.

PinglePongle · 29/12/2018 21:18

T k maxx online have started to sell pre owned designer bags with certification

Mercurial123 · 30/12/2018 05:01

I bought a Mulberry Roxanne years ago when they first came out. It was expensive and a limited edition colour which was unavailable in the shops. At the time there wasn't that much information on fakes or maybe I was a bit clueless. It was a very good copy. I only found out a couple of years later. Have never purchased a designer bag from eBay after that.

Luvacuppatea · 30/12/2018 07:48

Another vote for Naughtipidginsnest. I’m a fan of earlier Mulberry bags and have made several purchases from here. Shian is a delight to deal with. All bags 100% authentic and brilliantly described, so you know what you are getting. Returns accepted as well. I’d definitely steer clear of ebay........
