Topshop if I'm fat?

Makemeaname · 27/12/2018 00:55

Been given a £50 topshop voucher for Christmas which was obviously generous but it's not a shop I've ever been in. I'm a size 16-18 usually an 18 though. On their website clothes go up to an 18 but will they actually fit me? Or am I best ignoring clothes and just looking at shoes? (Size 7-8 there, they must have something that fits me)

I don't know I'm afraid. I haven't been there for a while. Best going in to try things on. Or do they give size guides on the website which show the measurements for what their size 18 is.

Bottomplasters · 27/12/2018 00:58

I’m a size 18 and I just feel the clothes don’t fit right IyKWIM

I would get a nice bag or shoes

Pollypopit · 27/12/2018 00:59

Topshop is tiny sizing 😢

I'm 36-24-35 usually size 6/8

Their Size 12 jeans are pinching on me

Pollypopit · 27/12/2018 01:00

Agree looking at shoes or accessories!

ThatPeskyElf · 27/12/2018 01:01

Shoes, bags, jewellery.... and take the compliment that you don’t look size 16-18 to the gift giver!

tittietinsel · 27/12/2018 01:02

Is it solely for topshop? Usually you can use them in other places too

Makemeaname · 27/12/2018 01:04

Thanks, suspected that would be the case! Hence never having ventured in there before. Will have a look at their shoes or maybe see if my size 8 sister wants to buy it at a discount

TopShop has appalling sizing, sort of like H&M, each size that should be a U.K. size is way to small than the actual size iyswim. I used to work there and we never had a plus size section in our store. Never really saw bigger girls in there either (don't blame them though! Spend your money where it's appreciated!💖). Maybe get a nice bag or pair of shoes?

Pollypopit · 27/12/2018 01:10

Agree the sizing is a disgrace. The clothes have gone rubbish too. You're not missing much at all!

Could you go into the shop instead of online and try on clothes to see if they do fit?

stopdropandroll · 27/12/2018 01:12

you can use topshop vouchers in wallis, evans, dorothy perkins, miss selfridge, outfit (and topman and burton) too

stopdropandroll · 27/12/2018 01:12

or get shoes, a bag, makeup, accessories etc?

stopdropandroll · 27/12/2018 01:14

or trade the voucher on zeek for somewhere you’d prefer to spend it, you’ll lose a bit of the value but might be better than spending it on something you don’t love

Cherries101 · 27/12/2018 01:14

It depends on your shape. Top shop isn’t ‘tiny’ sizing like others have said. Like H&M it’s designed for women whose waist and belly is smaller than their hips and bust. If you have shape and your measurements are close to standard measurements for an 18 then you will fit into the clothes. If you’re pearshaped, you may even need to drop a size.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 27/12/2018 01:18

I find the sizing at Dorothy perkins is far better than topshop. I'm a 14/16 top due to boobs (34F) and absolutely nothing fits properly - its like they have scaled up the exact same proportions from the petite sizes into the larger sizes and forgotten to add room for boobs and hips!

driggle · 27/12/2018 01:22

As a PP said, Topshop gift cards can be used in any Arcadia-owned store.

singleascheeseslice · 27/12/2018 01:41

It really depends on proportions. I can't fit into TopShop size 18 tops because I am top heavy but I find TS jeans size 18 fit really well because I'm tall with skinny legs. So go in and try things on. I do think their quality is usually top notch and get most of my bottoms from there.

Makemeaname · 27/12/2018 01:48

Ooh Evans is big clothes isn't it? I hadn't looked too closely at the voucher, Will have another look and see if I can use it there.

UpToonGirl · 27/12/2018 08:36

Agree with pp, I wouldn't bother with clothes but I've heard really good things about their makeup.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/12/2018 10:54

I’m a hippy 10/12, with a small waist and flat tummy - Topshop’s clothes are perfect for me. I have friends who are the same dress size but smaller bums and bigger middles, and they are not so great on them. I think they cut for a particular shape as PP said.

CountFosco · 27/12/2018 12:06

They are traditional sizing so whereas I am a 10 in most stores these days I'm a 12 in Topshop. But I was a 12 in topshop in the 1980s as well.

Shopgirl1 · 27/12/2018 12:56

I’m a 16 these days and have given up on Topshop except for jeans. You could get jeans for that voucher and have money left. Also, their tights are good.
Their shoes can be great, not as good as they used to be quality wise I find, but they usually have a gem. I’m size 8 normally, they do 42 in shoes and that fits me.

Auldspinster · 27/12/2018 13:12

Top Shop have nice make up (or at least they used to).

Fatted · 27/12/2018 13:17

Like other PP, you can use it elsewhere like Dorothy Perkins and Outfit. Hang on to it.

Violetroselily · 27/12/2018 13:52

I've just had a look at the topshop e-card T&C and they can indeed be used at any Acadia store - Arcadia Brands are Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Outfit, Topshop, Topman and Wallis.

I presume the physical cards are the same

tierraJ · 27/12/2018 18:38

I had a card the same as OPs & used it for Dorothy Perkins
