Jeans and trousers for muscular glutes and small waist

P8mzbzpw · 23/12/2018 14:02

Mum in my late 40s, cycling and hiking nut for the last 30 years, big buttocks and thighs but have a smaller waist. Anyone have issues finding jeans or trousers that fit the legs and backside but then aren’t loose on the waist? I’ve spent too long on lycra but wondered if fashion has changed to accommodate the extreme pear

I usually go for anything with "high waisted" in the title! Salsa's high waisted secret push in slim leg jeans are my go to jeans.

I do look a bit like a parsnip in skinny jeans but I give zero fucks! If my legs and body are strong enough to get me round 125 mile courses then I don't care.

DennisIsABastardMan · 24/12/2018 16:50

I’m a pear with a small waist and a v muscular arse (weightlifting 😁) and I live in True Religion Curvy Skinny Jennie Jeans. They’re the only ones I’ve found that accommodate a big bum and small waist. They’re not cheap, but you can usually pick them u in the sale for about £60.

Outdoornut · 24/12/2018 17:00

@TheLongRider not tried Primark but it they fit they fit. I’ve heard salsa jeans are roomy in the back?. Can you recall any brands that worked? Sorry for the desperation but our hobby has its price

minipie · 24/12/2018 17:33

I have this problem, perhaps not as extreme as some of you but definitely get the waist gap problem - but recently got some skinnies from TK Maxx which fit brilliantly - Joe’s Jeans is the brand I think.

Try here:

Your best bet is to dedicate a trying on session somewhere that does a large selection of brands.

Outdoornut · 25/12/2018 03:04

@TheLongRider always wanted salsa jeans but can never find them. Any brands you can think off? They are supposed to be roomy

taybert · 25/12/2018 09:13

Just a little tip re the tailoring, if you make slits in the waistband and sew wide elastic inside then it takes them in enough to pull into your waist without major structural alteration. Like this: www.sumoftheirstories.com/blog2014/04/how-to-insert-elastic-into-jeans.html
They don’t look elasticated when you’re wearing them though I guess if you are a very “extreme” pear then they might.

Sorry @TheLongRider i am a tech ignoramous. I was wondering why my post wasn’t positing and just realised there is a page 2.. Thanks for the advice re the salsa jeans. Laughed hysterically at the parsnip comment. We are long lost twins. I do love the fit of the high waisted primarks even though I have frog like proportions with 95% backside and 5% upper body . I too kind of like it now I’m older and not giving a crap is a great attitude to have to make life easier. My lower body drives me around the velodrome, up mountains and can wrap people up like pretzel :-)

Outdoornut · 25/12/2018 10:46

@TheLongRider where do you ride? I have just sent you a PM

Outdoornut · 25/12/2018 10:51

@taybert thanks. I have tried that and need to work on making the slits smaller. Because my legs stretch the jeans out you end up seeing the elastic.

Outdoornut · 25/12/2018 10:53

@DennisIsABastardMan thanks I tried my sisters (she spends way more on clothes than me) but couldn’t get my arse into them. What size did you go with and what are your proportions? Maybe I just needed the size up as I liked the look of them

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/12/2018 11:02

DS has a similar problem - chunky thighs and arse from cage fighting but a small waist, so any jeans are either too loose on the waist or too tight on the legs. So if anyone can recommend where an 18 year old boy can get fashionable and well fitting kecks please do say - he is currently "Man at M&S" apart from his trusty Levis.

Outdoornut · 25/12/2018 11:22

@AndNoneForGretchenWieners I will keep an eye out on my quest. Sounds like cage fighting could be a sport for me and @TheLongRider . Wonder what our signature move would be? Haha

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/12/2018 11:45

Thanks outdoornut

Outdoornut · 25/12/2018 21:36

Had the pleasure of getting Next black and blue jeans in the secret Santa. Anyone tried these? They are not for the pea. Cross them off of the list

Outdoornut · 25/12/2018 21:37

*pear

OneStepMoreFun · 25/12/2018 21:48

M&S straight leg stretch jeans are quite good for this body shape. And only £15. I don't find them super comfortable as they cling to the thighs llike lycra because of the stretch denim, but they look good, and best of all, no waist gape. I can actually feel them supporting my lower back.

Outdoornut · 25/12/2018 23:30

@OneStepMoreFun thanks. Are m&s fairly small sizes in general? I know what you mean about too much stretch. Are they clingy everywhere including the backside as I sometimes I find too much stretch where the material is quite thin and my butt starts eating the denim

OneStepMoreFun · 25/12/2018 23:55

They're not small sizes. Try your usual size or one down.Yes they cling everywhere. I don;t like that feeling on my thighs but they cling against the small of your back, which feels good, like back support. Not used to that as I usually have a gaping space around the waistband as my thigh to waist ratio doesn't fit fashion's ideals.

CountFosco · 26/12/2018 08:26

They are not for the pear. Cross them off of the list.

Next are made for the extreme apple since they are resolutely aiming at the middle market. I actually tried on a pair of shorts there last year and the waist was larger than the hips!!!

And the moral of thatstory is go for youth brands that expect you to have a waist. And get trousers tailored to fit better at the waist. Certain styles will fit better as well, high waisted wide legged trousers will look fab on a pear and you can fit to the waist more easily.

Outdoornut · 26/12/2018 12:31

Completely agree about next. The gaping hope and the belt over the top makes me look like someone from the 70s.

I’ve heard wrangler are good for the pears as they sit high on the waist? Parsnip-look is a good look I think even though i look like a isoscele triangle.

Lotsofsausage · 26/12/2018 17:35

Topshop Jamies for me. size 16 thighs and bum and 12 waist.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 26/12/2018 18:10

Matalan do high waist skinnies that are similar to Topshop Jamies - I have a giant bum and small waist and they stretch so fit well. Only £15.

Outdoornut · 28/12/2018 09:44

@TakeAChanseyOnMe Do you find the Matalan jeans look like denim and don’t cling to your bum and thighs too much like yoga lycra? I may just need to go for more stretch. High five to huge backsides

Outdoornut · 28/12/2018 09:46

@CountFosco I’ve had a really bad time with next clothing and totally agree, they do not make clothes for me. Do you have a similar issue and any brands that come to mind that have worked?
