Hi, after 40 odd years of looking for products that are suitable, I've found them and wanted to share.
CANTU is amazing and if the offer is still on are 3 for 2 at Boots.
I'm using both conditioners, not at once, the curl cream and I sometimes use cream activator for day after hair.
If you haven't tried it and your hair is in need of tlc these are the products to try.
I'm so happy and looking forward to the first ever xmas where I am confident with my hair.
Good luck, it may work for you.

Yes! Cantu is great! I use the Curl Activator and the custard sometimes.

RomanyRoots · 21/12/2018 18:08

Ooh haven't seen the custard, might have to try it. Grin

Yesss and how nice do they smell!!! Like a fruity yogurt- love how my hair retains the smell a few days in (as I’m a grotbags and only wash my hair a few times a weekBlush)

fikel · 21/12/2018 21:16

My dd has beautiful cork screw curls but she just won’t wear it down. Would love her to embrace it. Will check out the product

ZincOxideEugenol · 21/12/2018 21:18

Love love love the cantu range! I use the hair custard and Comeback Curl for inbetween wash days. Keep an eye on Superdrug because they'll take a third off the price every so often.

I have found an amazing product for refreshing my curls.
curl smith reactivater

It doesn't feel sticky and unlike when I use water and a cruel cream I get no frizz .

CountersurfingPerf · 23/12/2018 20:16

I just can’t get with the Cantu products smell 😢. I have also spent a not so small fortune on trying to find a CG alternative to Tigi Curls Rock - any (non Cantu) suggestions?

Glad you’ve finally found your thing though OP!

ggirl · 23/12/2018 20:23

@CountersurfingPerf why is it not CG friendly?

CountersurfingPerf · 23/12/2018 20:35

ggirl. I get terrible build up I think due to silicones. A low or no poo regime doesn’t get rid of it. Whilst it’s great for my curls I think my scalp has begun reacting badly to it as well.

ggirl · 23/12/2018 20:49

ah such a shame.

The CG method is great if you can find the products that work for you but it is such a ball ache trying to find those products .

My hair doesn't like heavy products , small amount of Aveda curling cream and some Jessicurls Spiralicious gel or Trepadora Papaya Slip is what I generally use and recently have started using the Curlsmith memory reactivater spray.

I do use a sulphate shampoo every few weeks to get rid of build up on my scalp ..does me no harm as long as I do a deep conditioner in the shower.

SeaGreenSeaGlass · 23/12/2018 20:50

Thanks - I hadn't heard of the brand. Any recommendations for long, dull wavy hair? I've just looked on Boots' website and there are lots of products, I'm not sure which would be best for me.

Holidayshopping · 23/12/2018 20:52

Is there anyone in here that does the curly girl regime and can link to any good products they use? I was on the CG FB group but a lot of the things they talk about were from the US and I got confused!

ForSaleChesterDraws · 23/12/2018 21:16

I do curly girl! My hair is low/ medium porosity, there’s a lot of it and it gets weighed down easily. It hair hates butters, oils, coconut, Shea range, Cantu and a load of others I can’t remember.

I alternate between washing with conditioner (Wilkos pink 80p stuff or Superdrug pink extracts) or using bouncegirl shampoo. I like the shampoo but won’t repurchase as it’s expensive. For deep conditioner I use ultimate blends yoghurt almond mask. I leave some conditioner in as leave in conditioner.

Styling I use a pea sized blob of boots pink cream, whip it up til it’s white in my hands, then smooth it over. I then follow with lots of Shockwaves gel (£2 a tube and lasts me a month). I scrunch our the crunch when it’s bone dry.

Holidayshopping · 23/12/2018 23:05

Thanks for that-its interesting to see what people do?

How often do you wash your hair?

HoHoFuck · 23/12/2018 23:14

I've just treated myself to DevaCurl this Christmas (the Low-Poo Delight shampoo and the One Condition Delight conditioner). I'm really excited about them and I'll probably by the styling creams, too.

CANTU isn't avaliable here, unfortunately. At least low-poo/no-poo products are easy to find (good ones, though...)

RomanyRoots · 23/12/2018 23:25

I've been doing curly girl for about a month, curls are much better defined, but need a really good cut in the NY.
It can take a long time for your hair to reach it's best, but I'm finding improvement already.
Unfortunately, it's still really tangled after washing and still takes ages to comb through, any suggestions gratefully received.

I do curly girl. I use cheap Superdrug conditioner to wash and leave in then cantu curl activator and Green People avocado and quinoa serum.

Ollivander84 · 24/12/2018 22:21

CG here
I wash with something cheap like wilko happy hair
Condition with moogoo or shea moisture
Eco olive oil gel on soaking wet hair then plop
Pantene mousse
Diffuse dry
Scrunch out the crunch with mizani hair oil

Curly hair? over here.
whiskyremorse · 25/12/2018 10:33

Don't forget to do a clarifying shampoo before you start curly girl so you start with product-free hair. I tend to co-wash most days because of working out and getting sweaty hair.
If your hair is tangly (sorry can't remember poster's name) then put a little conditioner back through the lengths of your hair and use a Tangle teaser. Avoid the roots

OhFlipMama · 25/12/2018 10:38

Waitrose own conditioner is amazing! 70p too. I use that to wash and condition, then leave in a blob along with a small amount of cantu curl cream - I've found leaving in a small amount of conditioner with it works wonders. I use Pantene defined curls mousse or curl jelly gel.
