How to style this dress

Please help!

I have LK Bennet Tassa dress in red and I'd like to wear it for a get together with some old friends.
The problem is, it is going to be freezing and so it will be impossible to wear anything else than boots with that dress.
Would that work? Red dress, black tights, black cardigan and black boots with a black coat ? Or will I look silly? Is that dress only for wearing with sheer tights and heels ?
I'm almost 40 and size 14.

It's a gorgeous dress! Nude tights I'm afraid - have a drink if you think you're going to be cold. Black shoes, either suede or patent leather would look good. A black cardie is fine, or a black cape for a more dramatic look.

These boots with a black leather/suede biker jacket and leopard print scarf might make it look a bit edgier than your standard court shoe

I have a similar dress. I wore it with naked legs and leopard print boots. Black tight would also have worked but I put my nail through them.

I'm sorry but I don't think boots or black tights work with this dress. If you need to wear boots then I'd consider another outfit

viviene · 18/12/2018 22:50

That's what I was afraid of. I want to wear this dress though. I'll think of something.

We're talking -20 freezing, not too sure I can drink that much LOL

There will always be another time to wear it! You're better off saving it until you can wear it the way you want to. Also in that temperature I would be in a snowsuitGrin

SoEasilyCaught · 19/12/2018 07:24

Thermal tights???

thethirdbiscuiteer · 19/12/2018 07:45

Minus 20? Where on earth is this party??

I'd suggest a different outfit then, if there's time. Velvet jumpsuit with thermal tights and vest underneath? Hope you find something and please don't freeze!

thethirdbiscuiteer · 19/12/2018 07:46

Oh wait, can you wear tights during the travel there and back, but take them off at the venue?

viviene · 19/12/2018 08:02

@thethirdbiscuiteer I was thinking that! Or just taxi there and back.
Party is in Eastern Europe and January can be brutal.
There is still time, I'll think of something else.
It will be fine at the venue but I'm worried if we decide to walk somewhere afterwards

So this might be a bit controversial but I have just been googling images of red dress black boots as I'm bored...

Black ankle boots look ok

could you try on with nearly black v sheer tights and black ankle boots

Or nudes

But not black opaques they seem to only look good with short red dresses and still look a bit Mrs Claus

viviene · 19/12/2018 12:26

@fringegrin45 oooh, I can certainly try that.

I do not like black and red generally. Go for a nude or metallic heel. Metallic especially looks classy and is festive! A barely there strappy metallic heel and a simple metallic clutch would look fantastic. Feel free to wear flesh coloured tights (top tip - spray a little hairspray on tops of thighs avoid the lady parts to stop them falling down the crotch as easily and being annoying!)

sirmione16 · 19/12/2018 12:31

And a long blazer type coat OR a big fluffy beige one.
