What primer do you recommend under double wear?

I've been trying out double wear after they reformulated double wear light so it is no longer my amazing HG. I like the coverage and staying power but it does settle into my fine lines later in the day. Are there any primers you would recommend that work well with it. I'm late 30s if that makes a difference.
Thanks!

I am a DW wearer too but a bit older than you so have had this same issue for a few years now. I struggle with it accentuating the lines around my eyes and I haven't found a primer that helps with that really as I am under the impression you shouldn't put it on or close to your eyes. Happy to be corrected on that though.

An EL salesperson at HoF suggested actually mixing DW with their illuminating primer (rather than putting it over the primer). I wouldn't want to spend that much on a primer tbh but I have mixed it with a cheaper primer (Collection's Illuminating Primer) and can see what she means. Only problem is it reduces the cover of the foundation a bit.

I have to say that I rarely wear DW on its own these days because of how it looks round my eyes - today I've mixed it with Dermacol which gives a heavier finish but looks better round my eyes. I often mix it with Dior Forever which is long lasting but lighter in texture.

Back to your original question about primers - I really rate the purple Barry M one and I'm also liking Boots No 7 Airbrush primer. I've just seen they do a Radiance boosting version of that so I might try that next time. I also love Rimmel Fix & Protect. I've tried Smashbox in the past and used cheaper dupes of that but these 3 I've just mentioned are my current faves. I don't think the Rimmel one will help much with lines but the other two might.

Max Factory Miracle Prep and finish it off with Mac Prine + Prep.
I'm the same age as you, OP.

What do you mean they changed the Double Wear Light formulation ? (i have just finished my last one but bought Regular DW for winter).

florriepeck · 18/12/2018 12:46

Estee Lauder Illuminator or Clarins Beauty Flash Balm are both very good.

Thanks for taking the time to reply!
@theothermum yes- it's no longer in the intensity 1,2 etc. They've increased the shade range which would be fine if it was just that but I've had a sample (in a darker side than DW as the lady on the counter told me the new one comes up light) and it's not the same foundation at all 🙄Very frustrating as DW light really was my HG!

Not sure if this is any help but I’m also really disappointed re dw light new formulation and colours. The colour wasn’t right and the new formula felt sticky. Old dw light was also my HG. I’ve swapped to Lancôme teint idole ultra wear which is amazing.

theothermum · 18/12/2018 18:49

@Howaboutthisone oh no! I still had the intensity 1 one, I ran out two weeks ago but replaced with the regular DW. I loved it DW light. I had DW bare (? i think) for summer in the new shade range but obviously it's a different foundation so I cannot compare and didn't realize it wasn't always like that.

Howaboutthisone · 18/12/2018 22:13

Thanks @Jemimapuddleduk I'll see if I can get a sample of that the next time I'm in a big town as mine doesn't stock any of the higher end stuff so I order it all online.

I wear DW and i've just bought Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer to give it a try. First day today and i think the foundation stayed on better for longer. It feels amazing on the skin.

I have found some of the specifically 'illuminating' ones just make me look shiny. aka greasy looking.

Howaboutthisone · 19/12/2018 07:02

@Laiste can you let me know how you get on with that please? Thanks!

Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base is a good match with ELDW - wore it on my wedding day Smile

Stops the DW from looking too ‘masky’ Or settling into fine lines.

Laiste · 19/12/2018 07:54

Will do. I too have recently heard the tip about mixing the primer with the foundation that pp mentioned upthread. About 1 third primer to 2 thirds foundation. I'll give that a go as well.

Laiste · 19/12/2018 07:57

I can say i used a laura geller primer in the past and it had a tendency to go 'bobbly' when you tried to put your foundation on. I did start reading that if you use a primer with silicon in it on a water based foundation (or something) this bobbling thing can happen. But i couldn't be arsed to read it properly wasn't concentrating and can't remember HmmGrin

dudsville · 19/12/2018 10:28

I'm interested to know what others are doing. I don't use a primer. I use a heavy moisturiser and put the dw on straight after. It's dry at first but once it mixes with the moisturiser it loosens. I keep a make up sponge in my bag for later in the day around the nose and eyes.

Howaboutthisone · 19/12/2018 14:57

Great tips! Glad I posted and have ideas for things to try!

I want to use a make up sponge, but every time i've given it a go over the years i've found it tricky. Plus i worry about how many £££ of precious DW is getting sucked up into the sponge instead of going on my face Grin I go back to finger tips every time.

sammy891 · 19/12/2018 21:23

The Rimmel Primer works well for me with double wear.

Howaboutthisone · 19/12/2018 21:24

@Laiste this is exactly me too! I have one ready but am scared to use it and thinking if the boat eaten up by the sponge too. I read somewhere that if the sponge is damp that's best but haven't been brave enough to try.
