Urgently need to order a warm, long winter coat tonight - HELP!

Earlier this decade I asked for advice on a winter coat and as a result bought a long Merril down-filled coat.
Today the zip has well and truly bust - I actually thought I was going to be stuck in it and it is beyond repair unfortunately. Not the best weather for this to happen so need to order something to night but can't find anything suitable so I'm looking for the wise S&B regulars to help me.

I'm looking for a down-filled, long (preferably below the knee on me, I', 5'7"), preferably at least shower proof coat. Not overly fussed on the colour. I don't want a fur edged hood.

Budget preferably less than £200 but would spend a bit more if necessary.

Any ideas??

How about Lands End? They have 50% off everything right now

walkingtheplank · 13/12/2018 17:32

I have looked at Lands End. They haven't got anything long without a fur edged hood - as far as I can see.

www.trespass.com/phyllis-womens-down-jacket This any good?

CmdrIvanova · 13/12/2018 17:34

You can remove the trim from the hood

CMOTDibbler · 13/12/2018 17:35

What size do you need? They have the commuter down in the sale section which is long, showerproof, and no fur on the collar. But only in 8 or 14-16

ARiverInEgypt · 13/12/2018 17:39

Do you mean that the zip is beyond repair or the coat? Any chance you could get the zip professionally replaced? Cheaper and not significantly slower than a new one.

1hello2hello · 13/12/2018 17:39

I would pop to a TK Maxx. They usually have a choice of down coats.

walkingtheplank · 13/12/2018 17:44

I'm a size 14.

The zip seems to be integral to the coat so I can't see how it could be replaced. Am gutted.

The Trespass one is 'OK'.

What I liked about my old Merrill is that you could pull in the waist from the inside so rather than looking like a duvet tube, it did have some shape to it. Not sure if I can find another like it.

Superdry have an amazing mustard coloured coat

halfwitpicker · 13/12/2018 18:01

Like a drawstring, but inside?

Yewtown · 13/12/2018 18:17

I have this one. It's waterproof, warm and has an internal drawstring. Kept me super toasty in Edinburgh last weekend

uniqlo have lots of very warm coats.

MrsEricBana · 13/12/2018 18:31

I have this www.marksandspencer.com/padded-jacket-with-stormwear/p/p60177986?image=SD_01_T49_4200A_Y0_X_EC_90&color=BLACK&prevPage=plp - it's fantastic! Sleeves have sort of thumb holes too so like gloves. Warm, nice shape, shower proof etc.

walkingtheplank · 13/12/2018 18:34

Halfwitpicker - yes, an inside drawerstring - helped me to look like I had a shape. I'm so gutted that it's died on me.

I am wearing a uniqlo knee length down filled jacket that has a hood and I use to commute between London and ireland, wear at sports pitches waiting for my kids etc, in the Irish rain. I have not taken it off for a day since I got it! Has zipped fleece lined pockets and everything!

Trippingalongalong · 13/12/2018 18:36

I’m a 12/14 and wearing medium.

walkingtheplank · 13/12/2018 18:37

I like the M&S one very much - but its only available in size 6.

Trippingalongalong · 13/12/2018 18:38

this one

ChessIsASport · 13/12/2018 18:53

I have the M&S one too and it is brilliant. I saw a lady wearing the red one this week and it looked lovely. You can check the stock in your local shop online too. They often have more in store than available online.

AdoraBell · 13/12/2018 18:57

Take the existing one to a Taylor or dry cleaners with a repair service. They might be able to replace the zip.

I hope you get something you like from the suggestions up thread.

dontgetowtfernowt · 13/12/2018 19:01

North face? Maybe a bit more than £200 but I have a long green version that's still going strong after 6 years.

Blondielongie · 13/12/2018 19:10

I have the Caldecott one too. I agree it's very warm. It's not down to the knee on my and I am 5 6
