Holy Grail Lip Balm?

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 12/12/2018 17:32

I'm pretty picky about my lip balms and wondering if anyone here is the same. I go through a lip balm every week/week and a half, which is a bit appaling I know, but I'm obsessed with my lips getting too dry.

I noticed that the ones I was getting were drying out my lips a lot though too so I switched to organic lip balms. Much better now. I got mine off Amazon I think they were just under a tenner for 6 of them. (Sky Organics, Organic beeswax lip balms). Just ran out today though so I just got some Burts Bees lip balms until I order some more (also very good, but comparatively I think the 6 pack is better value). Would Like to try a different brand though, just of curiosity.

Do you have a favourite lip balm/balms? Would like to hear about them Smile

My favourites are Burts Bees (I use the tinted ones instead of lipstick most days as I don’t need a mirror to apply!) and Dr Hauschka. Also, Blistex in the chapstick type tube, although it’s hard to find. If ever my lips get sore I use blisteze in the metal tube.

Worieddd · 12/12/2018 22:10

Really don’t rave the Nuxe one

Carmex or good old fashions lasinohw

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 12/12/2018 22:37

@LoniceraJaponica Really? There are so many disappointing calendars that keep being sold. Youtuber beauty gurus are the worst for it though. I simply don't buy them.

@NotAnotherJaffaCake I used to love Blistex but I don't know I've they've changed their formula or if my lips have just really sensitive but I cant use them anymore. I used to love the intensive moisturiser tube of blistex or even the cold sore cream if my lips were super dry and then overnight they were magically fine again.

@frugalkitty I really like burts bees too. I hadn't bought them in ages until today and they are much better than I remember. Last one I got was a mango one that after about a week started smelling like a dodgy orange starburst and felt so greasy. Clearly I just got a dodgy one before because really like them.

@Worieddd I remember liking carmex in the past. Its weirdly hard to find where I live though, especially the original.

The calendar is great. The lip balm isn't. It's Skyn Iceland Berry Lip Fix. Avoid.

burnoutbabe · 12/12/2018 22:48

I like the eos egg shaped lip balms. I pick them up in the us for $4 or so, around £6 I think in boots. Pink grate fruit one is lush!

popcornwizard · 12/12/2018 22:52

Bodyshop cocoa butter lip balm fixed me after about 20 years of sore chapped lips. The bloody bastards have stopped making it though and I only have a couple left. I only use is at bedtime and very occasionally in the daytime.

Clinique green tube stuff is also good but a bit sticky.

HildaZelda · 12/12/2018 23:25

Carmex, either the little pot or the squeezy tube, but only the original one.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 13/12/2018 00:17

Korres lip butter in pomegranate or quince. I have one in each coat and bag.

ButFirstTea · 13/12/2018 00:19

Dr Lipps Nipple Balm and Glossier balmdotcom (coconut flavour!) are two of my absolute faves but my standard is always Carmex

TheFairyAstronaut · 13/12/2018 05:30

Epic Blend Hemp Vanilla

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 13/12/2018 12:36

Will try to pick up some carmex too, I just don't know why I can't find it a lot of the time. I'm a bit weary of clinique stuff just now since the last time I used some of their face products they broke me out and dried my skin. Maybe it really is just me and I have sensitive skin since it's the same with body products like shower gel , soap and moisturisers. Only ones I can use just now are Aveeno which are fantastic.

Clarins lip oil. Can't live without it.

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 13/12/2018 21:34

@ToBeClear Can't really tell what it is. Is it a tinted lip balm? Or maybe a nourishing lip gloss? I like the look of them anyway though. I'll add it to the list :)

OP posts:
ToBeClear · 13/12/2018 22:11

There are different ones but I wouldn't say they're tinted just fragrances slightly differently. It's like a gloss but nourishing and you only need a tiny amount. I have one in every bag and coat pocket lol

Ollivander84 · 13/12/2018 22:12

Hurraw, the moon balm one

TheMildManneredMilitant · 13/12/2018 22:31

Actually I usually use Lansinoh (the breastfeeding stuff). It's thick but amazing on chapped lips. I also love Cath Kidston balm which is very similar to 8 hour cream.

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 14/12/2018 03:40

Nipple cream for lip balm! What the hell I'll give it a go 😄.

@ToBeClear Ah ok thanks for the clarification since I couldn't tell just by googling the product. I get why some people do that but I just like to carry around the one lip balm until its finished, which doesn't take me long. Also, theres less of a chance my husband will steal them!

evilharpy · 14/12/2018 06:57

I just don’t think you can beat carmex but 8 hour cream is also brilliant.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/12/2018 07:16

I'm not sure how Carmex is always so highly rated as it contains camphor, which is very irritating to your skin! Same for any 'natural' lip balms that contain peppermint, lavender, rosemary or certain other essential oils.

Nuxe Reve de Miel did nothing for me - it was drying and I found the texture very grainy. I like LRP's Cicaplast and the original Lanolips, though I wonder if you'd get the same results with a tube of Lansinoh?

OhFlipMama · 14/12/2018 07:17

Carmex, always.

OhFlipMama · 14/12/2018 07:19

Carmex is the only one I've found that I don't become 'addicted' to. Sounds silly but all others I've used cause a reliance, because the lips feel drier after an hour. Carmex is awesome, I can use it in the morning and then not have to think about it all day, even go weeks in the summer. I used to use lip balm like the op, going through loads of it and feeling so uncomfortable whenever the effect wore off.

BinkyBuntyFintyCunty · 14/12/2018 07:23

Amilab - available on amazon or french pharmacy websites. Beauty writer Sali Hughes raves about it too.

Or Skin & Tonic organic ones - they do peppermint (really refreshing), lemon, rose & unscented. All natural ingredients and very moisturising.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 14/12/2018 07:28

Weleda 'everon' is my holy grail lip balm. I don't like strongly scented products, and this one is just great.

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 14/12/2018 13:31

@QueenOfTheAndals Camphor? Maybe that's one of the ingredients that make my lips itchy. Peppermint doesnt seen to irritate my skin though weirdly. Or citrus. I'm def gonna try lanisoh.

@BinkyBuntyFintyCunty I'll add that to the list. I do like organic lip balms.

I am loving these burts bees lip balms though. Ever since I've been obsessed with applying lip balm I have the softest lips, though only with organic lip balms. Maybe the nipple cream will work too 😄.

I like Lush lip balms. The one I have at the moment is 'Rose Lollipop'.
