Holy Grail Lip Balm?

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 12/12/2018 17:32

I'm pretty picky about my lip balms and wondering if anyone here is the same. I go through a lip balm every week/week and a half, which is a bit appaling I know, but I'm obsessed with my lips getting too dry.

I noticed that the ones I was getting were drying out my lips a lot though too so I switched to organic lip balms. Much better now. I got mine off Amazon I think they were just under a tenner for 6 of them. (Sky Organics, Organic beeswax lip balms). Just ran out today though so I just got some Burts Bees lip balms until I order some more (also very good, but comparatively I think the 6 pack is better value). Would Like to try a different brand though, just of curiosity.

Do you have a favourite lip balm/balms? Would like to hear about them Smile

Badger Balm the unscented one. I think it's also a beeswax one

AliceRR · 12/12/2018 17:38

Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream lip protectant (if that’s what it’s called) is my favourite.

Carmex is very good as a more budget friendly one

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/12/2018 17:46

Lanolips (I have the Rhubarb one , DD has the Lemon)

DD also has one from Urban Outfitters (Ohio or something)

I got her some 'Hurraw' balms after a similar thread

I like the Nuxe one in the jar but only with a brush , not digging my fingers in, but it seems to have gone

SexNotJenga · 12/12/2018 18:03

Biofresh. It's a Bulgarian brand I bought on a trip there a couple of years back. It's miracle stuff, I swear. Available in this country via eBay. It gives a bit of a matte effect, which I quite like as well.

Destinesia · 12/12/2018 18:24

Amilab or Bioderma both are sold in packs of 3 on Amazon.

Twotabbycats · 12/12/2018 18:30

I love Hurraw lip balms which are made with all natural ingredients. They are more expensive than yours though at about £5 each.

The L'Occitane balm in the white tube is good too.

applepineapple · 12/12/2018 18:34

Nuxe Reve de Miel Smile

NiceUnusualDifferent · 12/12/2018 18:35

Nuxe Reve de Miel
La Roche Posay Cicaplast levres
Leneige Lip Sleeping Mask
These are the best ones in my experience

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 12/12/2018 18:35

I've thought about trying the Elizabeth Arden lip balm. May revisit that one thank you. Also to the biofresh suggestion. Sounds like laundry detergent but it's worth a go Smile

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I have heard good things about the Hurraw lip balms. Like to buy then in bulk since I go through them quite quickly but I think I'll give them a go since I've not heard a single person bad mouthing them! It's usually DH that steals mine. Or the dog. They're far less picky than I am though.

I swear by Palmer's cocoa butter lip balm.

Sarcelle · 12/12/2018 18:45

Nuxe in the pot
Carmex in the pot

Avegemitesandwich · 12/12/2018 18:45

I find the Burts Bees ones the only ones that actually moisturise my lips rather than just leave a film on them.

NotSoSkinnyNow · 12/12/2018 18:46

Highland wax company make amazing ones using all natural ingredients. Made in the highlands of Scotland by a small family company - if you're looking to support a home grown small business as well as having super soft lipsSmile

Not my company btw, but I use their products a lot. I have also highly recommended "Be Sensitive". I use it for DS's exzema.... Fab!

Oh, and Claire's balm (inspired by Outlander)

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 12/12/2018 18:50

Thanks for the suggestions up above. Will def try the 'Nuxe Reve de Miel' and Hurraw lip balms. I will also try any well reviewed overnight lip creams/balms.

@elibee I bought one of those a few weeks ago. Couldn't finish the full tube it just makes my lips itchy and has little sharp bits in it. Had one before that and it was the same. Smells gorgeous, just doesn't work for me.

elibee · 12/12/2018 18:57

Was it one of the one's with the flippy lid you got?
The one I get is a stick one with no scent to it (or very little anyway) and it's never been scratchy

hugoagogo · 12/12/2018 19:11

Shock how do you use so much?Shock

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 12/12/2018 19:22

@NotSoSkinnyNow Oh I def need to have a look at them! I like supporting smaller companies when I can, especially if they're natural lips balms since they tend to work better for me - and they're Scottish! My mum is so gonna love that too Haha.

@elibee Just the stick one I have too. Same one i had before also. Both times they've smelled beautiful, like chocolate (obvs because of the cocoa butter), but not in a cheap way. Maybe it's just a certain ingredient in some lip balms that do that. Loads of ingredients in a regular lip balm so no idea which ingredient(s) does it. They just make my lips dry and itchy unfortunately because I really wanted to like it.

@hugoagogo Just became a habit I think. If I take a sip of something or accidentally wipe it off I apply more lip balm and the amount used accumulates pretty quickly. Think it's fair to say i have somewhat of a lip balm obsession. I can stop anytime I want!

I read somewhere a few years ago that wearing lip balm all the time actually exacerbates the problem and your lips become dryer sigh... I wonder if your lips make their own protection in that case.

ginghamstarfish · 12/12/2018 19:53

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream works best for me, lip balm seems to disappear so quickly and have tried many brands.

HairdresserWithARubixCube · 12/12/2018 19:53

@madmum5811 I've read that too actually. I think that's what happened with my old lip balms but since I've switched to more natural lip balms that seems to have went away for the most part. I just feel "weird" when I don't wear any? I think its maybe a psychological thing. Or it could be like overwashing your hair.

I'm also obsessed by wearing lip balm. I carry balms with me at all times - and if somehow I forget, I have to buy one while I'm out. It's an addiction but I do have lovely soft lips so it doesn't seem to be doing me any harm.

My current favourite - which you may like OP as it's all natural, includes beeswax and is from a small company - is by Haeckels. I LOVE Haeckels. I am totally addicted to their skin care.

@HundredMilesAnHour Nice to hear from a fellow lip balm addict. Have the softest lips ever so can't complain 😊. Im quite sad though, I actually keep finished tubes as a trophy or something. Had a look at their website they sound really good actually I think I'll order one of those to try them out. Ingredients sound really good too, I've just been loving natural lip balms lately. As much as I like burts bees and other more well know brands, I do like supporting the smaller companies. Thanks for the recommendation 😊.

@ginghamstarfish Will check them out too since people seems to be saying a lot of good things about them. Thanks!

“I read somewhere a few years ago that wearing lip balm all the time actually exacerbates the problem and your lips become dryer sigh... I wonder if your lips make their own protection in that case.”

I have read that as well. I rarely use lip balm, and don’t have dry lips.
The one in this year’s M and S advent calendar will destroy your lips BTW. Loads of MN posters hated it, and so did DD.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 12/12/2018 21:32

Blistex in a pot. Cheap as chips, put it on after morning shower and before bed. Pot lasts forever and I almost never have dry lips
