My skin is so dry I’m transforming into a lizard

Ugh.

The skin on my face is so dry at the moment.

I have that wonderful combination of dry/oily and I recently bought a face wash for oily skin which I think is ruining it.

I use the Medikate hydr8 serum and a simple moisturiser for day and night. Drink plenty of water too.

Any suggestions? I’m under a great deal of stress at the moment and I’ve aged about 10 years over the last 3 weeks. I’m under 30

Aveeno baby cream has worked wonders plus washing with an oil based cleanser. It seems counterintuitive but works. If you dry out the skin too much (sounds like the oily skin cleanser has) then your skin will overcompensate and make it oilier.

Wash cleanser off with a flannel as it helps exfoliate without extra product. I find cold water dries my skin out worse as does central heating so i have started using a face oil on before my moisturiser and using nivea blue pot at night.

My skin can get ridiculously dry and I’ve found that just using a moisturiser isn’t enough. I need to use a serum too and over the past year I’ve tried loads from very cheap to very expensive. There isn’t much difference in what they do but the best moisturiser so far has been La Roche Posay Nutritic Intense and the best serum has been No7 and the Clinique one in the silver bottle.

I use Balance Me radiance oil and find it amazing for my scales skin.

The weird M&S peely mask is great for creating smooth skin from dry, and greasy patches.

TheFairyAstronaut · 12/12/2018 00:12

Honestly, cream or lotion cleanser rather than a face wash. They are so drying.

Cleanse with oil or moisturiser. After washing, apply hyraluronic moitsuriser, then thin film of aveeno (it’s the bizz!!), then lock it all in with a very thin film of bepabthen (yes, baby arse cream). This routine has transformed my scaly dry skin!

My sympathies, I have the same problem, less so my face but my hands and shins are so uncomfortable. I've tried all sorts of creams and oils but realistically I'm looking at waiting until spring for improvement. I'm presuming it's the central heating. Therefore I will sit and scratch in my nice warm house as that seems preferable to not scratching in a freezing house...annoying.

dontgobaconmyheart · 12/12/2018 14:09

This is me all year around OP, unless i use an oil or balmy cleanser and cleansing lotions, or a decent face cream. Eucerin 5% urea face cream is the best if I'm having a real problem but day to day I just use aveeno, or mix in a bit of eucerin if it doesn't feel enough. A drop of jojoba oil also works. Nice dressing gown btw Wink

Moisturise from within.

Try taking a 1000mg of Starflower oil, or Flaxseed oil or Vitamin E.

Bishalisha · 18/12/2018 09:26

I’ve well and truly been battered by the ugly stick. The colouring of my skin is all over the place. Broken out in spots. Aged 100+ years. My god!

Liz Earle products are good. Ask for some for Christmas.

^This. and fish oils.

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/12/2018 17:27

Astral cream overnight, it works wonders and is really cheap.

BringMeTea · 18/12/2018 17:48

Aveeno and fish or hemp oil orally.

Rathkelter · 18/12/2018 20:52

I have tried a zillion moisturisers: Clarins, Clinique, Lavera, Nivea, Elizabeth Arden, Eucerin, Aqueous Cream, la Roche-Posay,.. the only one that stops the dryness is NEAL'S YARD FRANKINCENSE. I'm shouting from the rooftops.
A friend recommends Neal's Yard rose oil. I tried the orange oil but it didn't do much. And is expensive.
I try to use a wipe off cleanser as opposed to water, and micellar water and wipes are the devil's work for dry skin.

Rathkelter · 18/12/2018 20:53

Might try Aveeno next time as others recommend and I'm sure it's cheaper.

moredoll · 19/12/2018 01:24

I like Eucerin Replenishing Face Cream Night 5% Urea for when my skin is very dry. Works when nothing else does.
