Shoes and jacket help

I've bought this dress to wear to the works Xmas party and have no idea what to wear with it. I don't normally go for sparkly dresses as I'm very apple shaped and don't want to look like I've misread the dress code and came dressed AS a bauble so I'm at a loss on how to style it.
I'm thinking will need some kind of jacket/coat as will be moving from pub to pub. I've got a black biker style one but not sure it looks right.
I'll need shoes which actually like feet and I can walk comfortably in so not too high. Find I'm better in a block heel.
If anyone can help I'd be greatful as I've lost 2 evening already searching for inspiration on line when I should be finishing the Xmas shopping.

Lovely dress! I think a biker jacket would look good in theory, have you tried it on with the dress yet? You may find you are just going to take your coat off once inside anyway. Where have you looked for shoes so far?

I agree, in theory, a biker should look nice with that but I hate being cold so would probably just wear a coat the same length as the dress. Lovely dress btw.

I've tried newlook debenhams asos office river island topshop so far but couldn't see anything that I thought would look right.
I like those shoes they look a wearable size heel for me.
