What would be on people's list of great investments clothing wise? Things that you think are worth paying more for and last many years.

I'd put:

North face waterproof
Dr Martens boots
Hunter wellies
Barbour jacket
Any cashmere but Brora and Pure age beautifully

Most of these I'd had similar from other brands but these are the ones that I'm still wearing many years after purchasing.

Ha I was expecting this to be all posh handbags and diamond studs, and was just weighing in to say 'Dr Martens'

A great pair of black heels and a great nude pair, I find that if youve got these then you've always got shoes to go with any outfit

I have all of the above but my kagoule (child of the the 70s) is Patagonia

@KismetHardie DMs over diamonds every time!

Cashmere sweaters and caridgans are top of my list.
A trenchcoat in a neutral colour
silk shirts or blouses in plain colours
a leather biker jacket or blazer. I gave mine away and then have regretted it 100s of times, which made me realise how classic it is
a wool blazer

I think you were lucky with barbour and hunter if you bought them years ago - current quality is shocking.

I agree re brora cashmere though. For me real longevity is in bags and that is where I tend to spend £££.

@mrscampbellblackreturns

I've had my hunters for over ten years and they are still in decent shape. Barbour around eight years. Interesting comment about the quality though as I was thinking of a new Barbour in another style but hadn't considered that they might not be comparable.

Bought my hunters for £5 at a car boot in Dorset ten years ago-still going strong!

I've been hankering for a Belstaf road master jacket for years-they seem like the perfect combo of leather jacket/Barbour

I was actually just thinking about finding a really great fitting tuxedo jacket, one that actually fits me. I think I might have to go down the tailoring route.
I have cashmere, Hunters, good leather jackets.
