Citrus scents hunt

Hi lovely perfumistas, I'm hoping for your help...

My OH is very reserved when it comes to scents, in fact the only one he currently wears is Aqua di Palma Colonia Assoluta, which smells absolutely gorgeous but is too expensive for everyday. I'd like to get him something different and cheaper (so he won't "save it for best"!) for Christmas.

He dislikes all the usual woody / heavy / musky / smokey notes in men's scent, so I was thinking of staying with citrussy scents. Do you have any recommendations for me to sniff out?

TIA!

The Hermes ones are lovely.

SherlockHolmes · 04/12/2018 18:40

Burberry Weekend aftershave is a very light citrus fragrance.

Uncooperativefingers · 04/12/2018 19:03

Thanks both. Hermes is probably more than I'd like to spend on a speculative purchase. Plus if he thinks it cost that much it would be saved for best like his Aqua Di Palma Hmm

Next time we're passing through an airport I'll steer him towards the Hermes section and see what he thinks though, thanks flibberty

Burberry weekend looks like it's worth a sniff though, thanks Sherlock

Clinique Happy - gorgeous & citrusy. Wish the female version was as good!

Beebumble2 · 04/12/2018 20:00

The original Eau Savage Dior.

Ofthread · 04/12/2018 20:23

4711 is great, also monotreme lemon.

Uncooperativefingers · 04/12/2018 20:33

Ooh fab more options to go and sniff! That's my afternoon off sorted Grin

ofhread the bottle for 4711 is gorgeous! Hoping that one smells the nicest now... Is it wrong to buy perfume based solely on how pretty the bottle is..?!

Monotheme, not monotreme! 4711 is hundreds of years old and smells very 'simple'..

Ofthread · 04/12/2018 20:51

The Acqua de Palma is in TKMaxx sometimes.

Destinesia · 04/12/2018 21:18

Another vote for the Dior Eau Sauvage (not the Jonny Depp one), or for a budget buy, try the Men's ones in Zara - Lisboa, 04 & Paris-New York are described as citrus.

Uncooperativefingers · 04/12/2018 21:50

Thankyou ofthread really appreciate you spending time finding those. I like that they're not obvious choices / brands

Will check out the eau savage too, as that seems popular.

Thanks again all!

I second Clinique Happy. DH smells delicious.

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 05/12/2018 02:05

Versace man eau fraiche

Kaz2200 · 05/12/2018 07:10

Turkish cologne, cheap as chips on amazon, you might have to buy a nice bottle to decant into.

Uncooperativefingers · 08/12/2018 12:12

Update: I went on a hunt yesterday to find as many of your recommendations as possible. Clinique happy was my favourite and I sprayed some on me so I could see how long it lasted. Walked back home and my DP told me I smelt great, so it looks like we have a winner! Grin

(Although I couldn't find any 4711 to sniff, so am holding off buying anything until then: the ingredients list reads like it could also smell amazing)

I reckon go for the Clinique. 4711 doesn't last very long at all, but is nice for a refresher.

Deathraystare · 09/12/2018 09:49

4711 is very eau de cologney. Nothing wrong with that of course but the other scents might be more complex. I always think that 4711 is good when feeling hot and sticky.

£32 West Indian Lime from Crabtree & Evelyn. Nearer the mark??

This is gorgeous. Well, like it. Gave it to Nephew and Godson in the past.

I always think that 4711 is good when feeling hot and sticky.

Me too - possibly because they used to make wipes. Didn't they? Or have I imagined that?
