Short eyelashes - what mascara?

I have really rubbish eye lashes. I blame my East Asian genes. They're fine and short and you can barely see them if I don't wear mascara.

What high street mascara would you recommend? Any other tricks to make them look more reasonable?

(I have tried eye lash serum btw. I'm pretty sure it's just sugar water. I've also tried false lashes. They make me look like RuPaul.)

I love benefits roller lash for everyday wear and benefits bad gal bang when I'm getting glammed up. They are amazing!

thethirdbiscuiteer · 04/12/2018 14:55

But MrsW85, do you already have good lashes? I've tried Benefit before and been disappointed...

I have short brittle eyelashes that grown down and really like both Roller Lash and Bad Gal Bang from Benefit, they make my lashes so much more noticeable and the Roller Lash gives them a decent amount of curl. Revitalash lash serum works for me but it's expensive so I get hesitant to replace it and then by the time I do it's like starting from scratch again. I also really like Max Factor False Lash Effect mascara. Have you tried a lash primer OP?

TruffleShuffles · 04/12/2018 16:15

I’m also going to say benefit roller lash, I have terrible short eyelashes that seem to grow straight rather than with a bit of a curl and this really makes a difference.

thethirdbiscuiteer · 04/12/2018 16:55

Everley, no I haven't tried a primer before. Is that for just before mascara, or overnight when you don't have make-up on?

Maybelline Eye Lash Orimer and Collection Lash Surge in Ultra Black.

Primer....PRIMER!

PreseaCombatir · 04/12/2018 18:49

Benefit ‘they’re real’
All the way

thethirdbiscuiteer · 04/12/2018 21:45

Can someone please explain when primer is used?

I have crap lashes and have tried loads from Dior to MUA. The ons I re purchase are the Collection one posted above and the Maybelline in the metallic pink tube- sensational I think it is called. I'm not saying they are amazing but they at least make my inadequate lashes look OK.

PreseaCombatir · 05/12/2018 08:35

third Put the primer on, let dry, then mascara

Mumao · 05/12/2018 08:47

I would recommend having a lash lift and tint... you can then layer mascara on top. I’ve had mine done, it gives a subtle look in the day and adding mascara gives a more dramatic look

thethirdbiscuiteer · 05/12/2018 09:15

Thanks Presea!

Mumao, how long does the lift last?

And curl them first, as close to the root as possible, hold them shut for a few minutes then punch them out so the ends get a curl too!

BusterGonad · 05/12/2018 09:22

Pinch!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 05/12/2018 09:23

Yep roller lash and I have trich

SunshineP · 05/12/2018 09:41

Clinique do travel versions of their products and the mascara one is fab. I much prefer it to the full size version. It gives length and thickens. The best thing is it’s only £6

OHolyNightOwl · 05/12/2018 09:41

You can also try to put on one or two layers of mascara, brush on loose powder on the lashes, and then another layer of mascara. Makes the lashes fat and fluffy.

thethirdbiscuiteer · 05/12/2018 09:54

Oholynightowl - ha great idea. Like individually battering each lash.

I have a heated eyelash roller in my virtual amazon basket for a squillion years, have never bought. Would that help I wonder. Anyone know?

Other than that, placemarking. I've never found a solution. And my lashes are blonde too - I look eyelash-bald without some help. Marginally better with.

Branleuse · 05/12/2018 10:21

i think 2000 calorie mascara is hard to beat.

Also I have heard a lot that putting castor oil on your lashes at night makes them grow

BusterGonad · 05/12/2018 10:51

Maybe it's also the way you apply it, I put a mirror on my lap on a cushion, then lift my lid with my finger, then apply very close to the root. Zig zag it in then repeat when still wet. It works for me!

Djnoun · 05/12/2018 10:53

You can get magnetic lashes that look pretty good and are easy to take on and off.

sophiec123 · 05/12/2018 11:48

I've got rubbish eyelashes but have found a product by Lancôme that I love! It's a white mascara that you put on first, I usually do two layers and then use a benefit mascara on top. I will try and add a picture of the Lancôme mascara
