Thick hair, long thin face, what hairstyle?

Not had my hair cut in about 3 years and it's looking awful. No idea what to ask for as last time it was cut I went very long to short and hated it (sort of bobbed) so not been back since. Mid 40's, wear glasses, have a pathetic fringe already (cut with nail scissors!), hair is thick, dark brown, and when cut to a short bob or less, suddenly turns curly. Long thin face. Can't be doing with hair dangling in my eyes (a la Claudia Winkleman) but have utterly lost sight of what to ask for. Slightly complicated by living in back of beyond so am limited to local hairdressers who are competent when you tell them what you want, but definitely not prepared to suggest something. Google not helping as I can't see any face shapes like mine. Any good websites I can look at or terms I could search with?

If you Google thick hair and look at images, it will lead you to sites like this, full of ideas. This will help you to visualise what you might want.

I have thick, wavy hair and, tbh, it works best if I have it jt to respect the wave, then it doesn't look dreadful if I can't be arsed to fight it, or we have a so not rare damp day.

Thanks, that's useful. Trouble is I don't like any of those hairstyles in themselves! I suppose I need to try and work out which would suit my face best. This is why I hate getting it cut!

Keep changing your search terms. 8nclude length and even your face shape. There are sites full of dozens of cuts that can help you to decide what you like and dislike.

The key principle would probably be to increase width and reduce length. Length will accentuate your face shape. You are lucky to have thick, curly hair as this probably means you have naturally good root lift. How about reducing length to shoulder skimming and adding a few layers to remove weight?

Do you use a Dream Curls type of shampoo/conditioner or a no sulphate type of regime? If not, it may be worth looking at how you can really increase the shape of the curl.

Is there a celebrity you can get a photo of, who has a similar face shape?

Not heard of dream curls so will do some research into that. Not sure about celebs, not many long faced pointy chinned 40 somethings that I know of...

What about this where you flick the ends out? You can grow the fringe out.

I think it makes Liz's long face not look so long.
