Hourglass mascara disappointment

SpamChaudFroid · 03/12/2018 09:27

I'm a complete sheeple and after seeing peoples' amazing beautifully transformed, reaching-for-the-sky-yet-natural-looking lashes bought some. Utter disappointment, lashes looked like a dead spider.

It feels like too much product is delivered by the brush, so tried again after wiping much of the product off the wand. Still clumpy, claggy spider legs.

Anyone worked out a way to use this stuff without photoshop/personal MUA?

I bought 4.3 I won’t open

Why did you buy them if you won’t open them?

il0vew1ne · 04/12/2018 08:41

I use Lancôme hypnose thought is was brilliant, just bought a replacement and its awful. It is flaky and clumpy wish they would let us know when they change the way they make it.

Oops sorry Villanelley, I can be such an arse sometimes. Please accept my apologies. But do you mind me asking, (or to anyone else who uses it and likes it) do you have a special technique or something?

Essence Lash Princess mascara or in fact any of their mascaras is/are cheap and much, much better or as good as the more expensive mascaras. I won't use anything else now

Ollivander84 · 04/12/2018 10:05

I like the essence lash princess too Smile

Racecardriver · 04/12/2018 10:09

If it’s clumpibg you aren’t applying properly. Wipe off as much on the tube as you can then wipe off a bit more on a tissue before applying. Use the very edges of the bristles when you apply (so the wand is barely touching your lashes) then use a lash brush (the kind that looks a bit like tooth brush) to get rid of any clumps. Make sure you use an eye lash curler before applying for maximum effect.

I am another one in desperate search of a good mascara! I love the look of Benefit but it just ends up rubbing off under my eyes so I just look like I haven't slept.

SpamChaudFroid · 04/12/2018 11:20

I've tried wiping Racecar - maybe I need to use a lighter touch. I'm used to wiggling it up from the base of the lashes whilst blinking quite hard onto the brush.

TheHodge, try Max factor Masterpiece - I always go back to it after brief flirtations with other mascaras.

Do people find themselves in certain camps when it comes to mascaras that suit them for instance I like.

Benefit Roller Lash
Clinique power lash
L'Oréal Unlimited

These are the ones that give me length and fullness, I don't like any Maxfactor, maybelline the Lancôme Hypnose or the Diorshow. I wonder if there are others similar to my likes and dislikes that would then lead to finding THE one?!

EraOfTheGrey · 04/12/2018 13:14

I have naturally long lashes so I'm a bit of a mascara junkie. For cheaper end I like Maxfactor. But my favourite mascaras are: Hourglass, Diorshow (this is my night out bold mascara) and Urban decay Perversion. I find all the benefit mascaras to be flaky and clumpy.

If I had to pick just one mascara and price wasn't an issue then I would go for Diorshow.

Ollivander84 · 04/12/2018 13:22

My favourites are
Essence princess lash
L'Oréal princess

Didn't like Lancôme hypnose

Buddyelf · 04/12/2018 13:30

I use Benefit Roller Lash and I love it, won't use anything else now.

KatharinaRosalie · 04/12/2018 13:43

They're Real gave me the clumpy spider legs, but Roller Lash is really good.

GlasgowWorrier · 04/12/2018 15:48

I don't really know why I bother with any other mascara than Max Factor False Lash Effect, or Masterpiece. They're both excellent, with nice thick non-clumping brushes.

Ollivander84 · 04/12/2018 16:03

Weirdly every mascara smudges on my lower lashes except for max factor masterpiece Confused so I keep a tube of that for lower lashes only

TheMonaOgg · 04/12/2018 16:53

Benefit They're Real clumps massively when I use it as does Charlotte Tilbury. I really like Smashbox Full Exposure.

SpamChaudFroid · 04/12/2018 18:27

Well I had another bash at the Hourglass mascara today. I eventually got some quite nice lashes on right eye after I -
Wiped wand against inside of tube
Wiped wand vigorously on tissue
Combed through with lash comb after applying to lashes.
Tried repeating on the left eye and the wand gunked up sticking all the lashes together. It sets far too quickly for me and I don't have the stamina to try again.

@GhostCurry 6 months but a bit more is fine if well cared for. Only take a couple of weeks of use for them to get a bit drier.

GhostCurry · 05/12/2018 07:27

I have never understood the “wipe excess on a tissue” advice. Surely the wand ends up covered in fibres? I also resent throwing wiping half of the product off and throwing it away with the tissue

Oly4 · 16/01/2019 10:40

I’m also a sheep and bought the Hourglass mascara. All it does is clump...! Dreadful. I’m also going back to Lancôme

Elledorado · 16/01/2019 10:56

I also bought it at Christmas and love it! I wonder if it varies from tube to tube? Confused For reference I hate Benefit (and other clumpy smudgy mascara) & love Diorshow
