Polo necks and big boobs - a no?

tenbob · 29/11/2018 11:07

I have always been large of chest, and have stuck to the rules of no crew necks and definitely no polo necks

But I keep seeing people looking so warm and chic in a simple black polo neck and am wondering if I can get away with it without having a mono-boob?

I'm a double FF and always wear them, but only under dresses in a 1960s fashion!

naturistmum · 29/11/2018 11:12

For me its a no - I look awful in them and my already huge boobs are all you can see. I suppose if you wore them with a scarf or something to break up the neck line that would help though.

CrookedMe · 29/11/2018 11:12

You know what, lately I'm having a revolutionary thought, that maybe the main purpose of clothes isn't to make us look thinner/prettier/whatever else we're always told we should be.

If you like it, wear it. I'm having so much more fun with clothes since I decided that the main role of my clothes was not to minimise the space I take up in a room.

NonaGrey · 29/11/2018 11:16

I think whether you look good in them depends on more than just bust size.

Breadth of shoulders, length of neck and face shape all make a difference.

If you feel good wearing them, wear them!

peachypetite · 29/11/2018 11:18

I look awful in them too! Like a shelf.

XingMing · 29/11/2018 11:19

I like your thinking CrookedMe, but it still won't persuade me to wear a polo neck anytime soon. Never say never though! Reserves right to change mind

BettyCrook · 29/11/2018 11:22

I agree its not a definite no just because of big breasticles. Grin

Just wear them, you will soon know if you don't like them. Fashion rules change all the time.. go with what feels good to you.

tenbob · 29/11/2018 11:40

nona

I've got quite broad shoulders from lots of swimming, and a pretty good neck - does that make me more or less able to wear polo necks?

I suppose I need to go and try some on and see how they look

Next question - the ones with a foldover neck, or shorter neck?

They're not your ideal shape but if you want to wear them, try with a longish necklace to create a V shape and draw the eye down.

Branleuse · 29/11/2018 12:14

dontcha know, you always should dress to make big boobs look small. Small boobs look big. Big bum to look small, small bums to look big.
etc etc etc. If youre thin, you need to dress to look like you have curves, and if youre curvy, wear clothes to disguise this

Whatever you do do not wear clothes that people can tell that your big boobs are big

ArkAtEee · 29/11/2018 12:23

It's rubbish. Depends more on the overall look and line of the outfit. Wear a colour that suits you. Having said that, I wouldn't wear a boxy one.

ineedsomeinspiration · 29/11/2018 12:25

I've got broad shoulders and big boobs. Polo necks do make me look bustier but if I want to wear one I will.

BusterGonad · 29/11/2018 12:27

I wouldn't wear one on its own as I feel like they make my boobs look low slung and HUGE!

CrookedMe · 29/11/2018 12:28

Exactly right @branleuse

I wonder why, no matter what our shape or size, we're always told to dress to compensate for it? It's not women who win that way. It's our consumer culture.

It's a black jumper. You're really not going to go far wrong or - shock horror - alert people to the fact that you have shoulders and breasts.

Everyone should listen to this, it has given me a lot to think about lately.

No. I look like a 2 seater sofa in them

halfwitpicker · 29/11/2018 12:30

I've a good pair of knockers and regularly wear polo necks.

It depends what your wear the with. You have to balance out the skittle.

lubeybooby · 29/11/2018 12:31

should probably add I am an overweight H cup though, so maybe slimmer with big boobs but a bit smaller cup would be ok

halfwitpicker · 29/11/2018 12:31

They can look matronly though

ZackPizzazz · 29/11/2018 12:31

What Molton said. Try it with a long pendant necklace over the polo to break up the Wall O'Boobs effect and draw the eye down.

Ringsender2 · 29/11/2018 12:34

I have a funnel neck fine wool jumper. It's not baggy but is not fitted either - kind of tabard-y. I am large of nork. I think it looks good on me. I wouldnt feel confortable wearing a skinny fitted ribbed polo but a looser (but not sack) style, definitely

KatharinaRosalie · 29/11/2018 13:45

I can only wear them under dresses as well. No issues with boobs looking big, but turtlenecks make me look like they also sit somewhere around my waistline, which is simply not my preferred look.

CrazySheepLady · 29/11/2018 14:02

Personally, I wouldn't. I've got quite a short top half and have big boobs, so polo necks make my tip half look like one giant unaboob.
