I’m very much a jeans and long line top girl. It what I’m comfortable in and I never deviate from it.
This year I have a Christmas part I have to go to (next Friday Sad). I can’t find anything I feel comfortable in. Here’s my problems-

  1. I’m short-5ft 4
  2. I’m fat- size 20, all on my stomach hence the long tops.
  3. I can’t/won’t wear heels so whatever I find needs to go with black ankle boots.
  4. I’m poor- max budget of £30.

Everything I’ve tried so far is either too glitzy, makes me look like a sack of shit, too tight on the tummy area, finishes below the knee which makes my legs look like stumps or is out of budget.

I’m envisioning a black dress/tunic with maybe some embellishment around the neck line, fairly low cut (good boobs, bad, bad double chin and short neck so high necks look horrific) OR a wrap around type dress. It doesn’t have to be super smart or dressy just nice enough for a posh meal out where most people will be dressed up.
Am I a lost cause?

Ooh I love the black dress - with silver jewellery? Looks really good on you! Smile

DottyDotAgain · 30/11/2018 18:07

(Where's it from - similar size here!)

JellySlice · 30/11/2018 18:10

I don't like the flowery one (makes me think of a dressing gown) but the black one is lovely and gives you lots of options for embellishment.

You certainly don't need to wear it with leggings. How about thick black tights with a bit of sparkle, and chunky jewellery in the same colour as the sparkle?

I'm in a similar position to you, and I've just found a lovely dress in a charity shop. Not exactly what I would have chosen had I been buying new, but elegant and only £10!

MotorcycleMayhem · 30/11/2018 18:17

The black one looks fab, love the neckline! I'd it pair with coloured tights rather than leggings. Maybe opaque teal ones? Black ankle boots, chunky jewellery.

dotty it’s from yours, I’m lucky enough to have one on my high street. I do have 100 denier tights, I think because the last above the knee dress I wore was probably a school skirt I’m worried about flashing my bits and it looking terrible with my tree trunk thighs!

I’ve been scouring eBay and the charity shops for weeks with no luck. Some times I can get amazing stuff and when I really need something they are full of tat!

Black one looks great, really suits your figure (and hopefully face!).

Thick black tights with a bit of sparkle, nice make up and hair, job’s a good-un!

fringegrin45 · 30/11/2018 19:47

Black one. Chunky jewellery. 100 denier tights fine.

Looks great

Need Matt opaques not shiny if you want to play down thighs

JellySlice · 30/11/2018 20:36

Please don't worry about your thighs. Most of us have some part of our body about which we feel uncomfortable. We feel it's like a KLAXON drawing everyone's attention, but it's not.

Your legs will look lovely in that dress. Being tailored to your bust and waist, it enhances your curves and hangs away from your legs, reducing their apparent width. The swish of the skirt will also draw attention away from them.

Glitz it up, rock the outfit and look gorgeous!

fringegrin45 · 01/12/2018 10:35

Sorry yes I wasn't implying anything wrong with thighs at all! Just that Matt usu look better. (I'm a 20)

Cakemadeoffruit · 01/12/2018 11:46

I'm the same size as you and I'm eyeing up this as I know this shape suits me

Btw I liked both the dresses you tried on earlier
