What would you do with hair like this?

I’m a bit fed up.
Naturally curly but mostly a halo of fuzz. Curls don’t hold but I don’t care for them so would prefer to blow dry and stick in a bun than do any kind of curly method. Honestly I really don’t have interest in cultivating curls.

Mostly blow dry straight and occasionally ghd.
Am 44, condition getting worse, just frizz and fuzz.
Use kerastace shampoo and their cement thingy anti frizz heat protectant, and a deep condition twice a week.
When not straightening my hair still behaves similarly. Oils make it limp and greasy, creams not so bad.

Just want an easy life, hate it poker straight but my waves are dreadful. it makes me feel ugly and weird, however silly that sounds.
Natural colour never dyed. Is very pale blond in daylight although a bit muddy in these pics.
Do not wish to colour it.

What would you do? My partner seems to love anything I do to it and has romantic notions about the frizz fgs (bless him). Lovely but not helpful!

Pics attaches are freshly conditioned and combed through, air dried. Ugh.

Shriek, err thanks for thinking my hair is 'boast' worthy but my hair was genuinely nothing but frizz and I used to have to use straighteners on it for about an hour and it was still frizzy so I really justed wanted the OP to see what a difference just loads conditioning made. Seriously OP try putting tons of conditioner in your hair without wetting it first and leave it in overnight, I even just use tesco's own.

Vicliz24 · 29/11/2018 22:36

Have you tried a leave in conditioning product? I use Bumble and Bumble invisible hair oil primer and it has made a huge difference to my frizz

Shriek · 30/11/2018 02:43

Really was! Both pics its looks really good

Montybabe · 30/11/2018 03:26

Another one with similar hair. I wash it once a week and use boots curl creme....best and cheapest product that I found to avoid the frizz. Let it dry naturally.

You really need to look up the curly girl method. It's not difficult, you just need the right products and it can take some experimenting to find what works for your hair. There is the Curly Girl book or there are tons of FB groups / forums dedicated to it

Sorry that posted 4 times. I guess I've made my point Confused

giftsonthebrain · 30/11/2018 04:55

another vote for the curly girl method. easy peasy to do.
start with no poo (no sulphate) shampoo and conditioner and a curl gel. start with a wash (but you'll only be doing this fairly rarely, i shampoo weekly) then condition. wrap up your hair for a bit then use curl gel.
now it may take a few days for the curls and waves to form better. don't finger rake your hair and don't brush it (wide comb only if necessary). scrunch up the waves to encourage them to form. you should see progress in a few days.
i wash my hair daily with conditioner.

Shriek, hang on I think you must be thinking my first pic was a before? When I said in my first post "That's what my hair used to look like" I meant it used to look like the OP's. Sorry that's my bad for not being clear. Anyway first pic is now and the second pic was from a while back when I tried the curly girl method.

Musicforsnorks · 30/11/2018 16:43

Thanks again to everyone for your opinions and advice.
I bought some tester curlers from primary today and Pantene mousse, just to experiment. I doubt it will work.

The idea about sleeping in a hat amuses me as I am certain that no conventional route will work on my hair!

My problem lies in not wanting to have it curly, but not wanting it poker straight either. It is easiest to manage when blow dried straight so I guess this means accepting some damage for an easier life (or so it seems).

I will have to decide whether this is worth it, or whether I want to go completely heat free from now on.

So far my mind is 50/50.....

Curlers from primark not primary.

Leaving conditioner in overnight and sampling Boots curl creme on the menu now, too.

I’ve got a bit of free time this week, thankfully!

Does anyone know, can these methods work if I just want waves instead of spirally curls? How would I encourage that?

Neededastealthname · 30/11/2018 17:46

If you want less of a curl don't scrunch your hair, when it's drying you could grab the very ends of your hair and pull to encourage any curls to stretch into more of a wave.

I only ever really achieved waves with the curly girl method because my hair just isn't naturally that curly so it will depend on your curl type too.

I would honestly say don't focus too much on styling right now because it could just get frustrating, focus on getting your hair in good condition first because it will be then that it's easy to style.

fringegrin45 · 30/11/2018 17:56

Spray instead of wet, don't roll up to roots

fringegrin45 · 30/11/2018 17:59

Or

fringegrin45 · 30/11/2018 18:02

Try again

Neededastealthname · 04/12/2018 11:18

OP, how's the hair rehab going? I just remembered I forgot to mention one of my holy grail products, I'll post a screen shot, it's so cheap when I first tried it I wasn't expecting much but I can't be without it now. You can get away with using it all over your hair even near the roots which you normally can't with other oils.

ismymumjustadick · 04/12/2018 13:30

I sympathise OP, my hair is very similar. Do you also find with yours that you can style it beautifully at home and it looks glossy and healthy and tidy, then as soon as you step outside the style disappears and it returns to a ball of frizz? I might as well not bother every morning because it’s always a mess after being out for 15 minutes doing the school run even when there doesn’t seem to be any humidity or breeze.

Curly girl method just made my hair look thin, sad and lank and I kept it up for months.

The underneath of my hair forms into stunning ringlets when I let it dry naturally but the hair on top just frizzes like a bush no matter what products I use on it. I’ve tried twisting it into ringlets to encourage the curl after using a product but they don’t hold and the frizz returns as soon as the hair is dry. It drives me mad.

Neededastealthname · 04/12/2018 14:03

Ismymumjustadick, apparently the hair on top gets more damaged, it happens to mine too, I had some serious damage at the back and I couldn't figure out why because I wore it up all the time and didn't use heat or dye and I eventually realised it was from wearing bobbles.

I heard other people from the curly girl method had the same issue with hair thinning and apparently it was from the scalp getting too much build up.

The humidity thing is very annoying! I think vo5 have some anti humidity hair sprays.
