What would you do with hair like this?

I’m a bit fed up.
Naturally curly but mostly a halo of fuzz. Curls don’t hold but I don’t care for them so would prefer to blow dry and stick in a bun than do any kind of curly method. Honestly I really don’t have interest in cultivating curls.

Mostly blow dry straight and occasionally ghd.
Am 44, condition getting worse, just frizz and fuzz.
Use kerastace shampoo and their cement thingy anti frizz heat protectant, and a deep condition twice a week.
When not straightening my hair still behaves similarly. Oils make it limp and greasy, creams not so bad.

Just want an easy life, hate it poker straight but my waves are dreadful. it makes me feel ugly and weird, however silly that sounds.
Natural colour never dyed. Is very pale blond in daylight although a bit muddy in these pics.
Do not wish to colour it.

What would you do? My partner seems to love anything I do to it and has romantic notions about the frizz fgs (bless him). Lovely but not helpful!

Pics attaches are freshly conditioned and combed through, air dried. Ugh.

Whats it like when you go the other way from the sulphate free and instead load it up with silicone? My hair loves a bit of silicone. If it's looking crap every now and again a good splodge of pantene does it the world of good.

LittleMissBrainy · 28/11/2018 20:36

My hair is naturally like that, and super thick. Last year I invested in a Dyson hair dyer and cloud 9 straighteners. It has made all the difference and I now have a bob with a straight fringe and finally, at the age of 42 I have achieve my (admittedly, rather shallow) dream of trendy hair!
It takes about 20 minutes to do twice a week when I wash it and I spend about 5 mins a day with a top up straighten. But also, if I can't be bothered and leave it to dry naturally it goes beachy rather than fuzzy now.
So my advice would be invest in a Dyson.

hendricksy · 28/11/2018 21:11

I think you need to realise that your hair will need styling .. my hair looks just like yours left to its own devices . I either have to use products and defuse it or straighten it .. I can make mine look shiny and soft when it's straight too but it all takes effort sadly 🙈🙈

Musicforsnorks · 28/11/2018 21:20

User187 - my hair seems to like me changing things up every once in a while. Mine also likes the occasional splurge with Pantene!

Little miss brainy - sounds good. I like the idea of going back to a bob. I think it lifted my face in the same way updo’s do, and it was much quicker to style. Still, I regretted not being able to wear it up. I’m actually interested in the days on airstyler thingy but baffled by the cost Hmm

Hendricks - true. I just want it to tumble over my shoulders each morning like a glossy waterfall without any effor whatsoever. If only!

dyson airstyler, not ‘days on’.

Needed I love your hair colour! Do you colour it yourself or professionally? What is it please, if it's a diy? You're going to say it's natural now and I'll be Envy.

Music I love your hair colour too and after the parlux it looks good. In the before pic it does look like you're fighting against your natural texture and waves/curls do go frizzy if you brush them etc. I would've suggested conditioner, Redken heatcure masks are brilliant. Olaplex treatment at a salon does wonders for dry ends. It's nice imo.

I really want to know what your DH's romantic notions are about frizzy locks? 😊 Pre raphaelite?

EnidButton · 28/11/2018 21:44

Partner, sorry.

fringegrin45 · 28/11/2018 21:50

Have you tried heated rollers to get waves?

They only take few minutes to put in then you can get ready after. Some kind of smoothing curl mousse first eg vo5. You can use fingers to keep curl or brush out for waves depending on look you prefer.

Do you know anyone could borrow from to try out?

fringegrin45 · 28/11/2018 21:53

Ps Use the bigger barrelled rollers

ItsLikeRain · 28/11/2018 22:12

Another one with similar.

Try brushing it in the shower with conditioner on with a wide tooth comb. Then rinse, scrunch gently (don’t rub) with a towel and let it dry.

Will definitely reduce frizz and make it wavy.

Musicforsnorks · 29/11/2018 00:26

Enid - he has a;ways liked bigger hair, in a kind of 60’s/70’s way....yoko Ono, Kate bush sort of thing. He usually says he likes it any way I wear it but it’s like he simply cannot perceive frizz as problematic. I guess at one time is WAS considered a style choice rather than the ‘flaw’ it is regarded as today.
God I would have been on top of the frizz game back then!

Fringegrin45 - no, but did try several, sizes,of untested ones a while back. Let them dry, then when unravelled my hair just s-rang back up into tight fat balls close to my skull. They don’t hang downwards if that makes sense.
I would love for this to work, I wonder if some product might help pull them down a bit.

Itslikerain - I have tried this but the fuzz does appear even if I don’t touch my hair at all. Sad

Apologies for endless spelling and punctuation errors. I cannot get used to typing on an iPad keyboard after the recent deathvofvmymlaptop. See?
What utter bollox software places commas where I haven’t requested them to be? Aargh.

It does have a cool vibe. I can see what he means.

A hair turban to dry hair half way before using heat really improved my hair. I find if I use a hairdryer when it's just squeezed dry with a towel so very wet, it feels much dryer. Micro fibre hair turban. Mine were £1 from Morrison's.

EnidButton · 29/11/2018 00:32

Apple autocorrect is a bag of 💩 since an update a couple of years ago.

fringegrin45 · 29/11/2018 00:46

the trouble with heated rollers is the cost if you don't know if they'll work or not. I think using heated rollers is a lot easier than Velcro. I use rollers because I'm clumsy and burn myself with tongs.

It may be roller technique causing the tight curls. My hairdresser showed me where to place them. But there are loads of YouTubes on this for curly and frizzy hair. The link I posted suggests vertical placement. Should say my hair is normally straightish. I break up curls with wide comb myself. There's also a technique where you brush out the curls for glam waves. If I do it mine goes straight again but might work on yours.

I think it's sweet your DH loves its natural state can't ask for more really

Musicforsnorks · 29/11/2018 10:15

Thanks for the tips. I think that I will try some cheap rollers just to check out a few vids and see what happens. Would anyone recommend product prior to setting them?

I think I secretly wish for a solution which enables me to:
A) Wake with glossy hair that only requires a few runs through with comb.
B) hair that dries into the shape/texture I desire without much styling.
C) even, shiny waves or non-damaged straightness.

And this isn’t going to reflect reality. At all!

There’s also this thing where my tastes and face/body are subtly changing, which is probably natural and fair enough in my mid-forties. At this odd, in-between point I still don’t feel as if I have settled into this ‘new’ feeling just yet, but I am aware that I have somehow outgrown my usual ‘look’.
Kind of like my physical identity is shifting. I know that this is a natural part of ageing, and it sometimes even feelsmrefreshing and exciting, but there is quite a bit of confusion in the mix.

I was always satisfied (never fully though!) with my flattened, center parted hair. It wasn’t a part of my identity for over 20 yrs. Now I feel better with some movement in it, or with it pulled away from my face. It is so odd getting used to the fact that I am changing.

I have fine, frizzy hair that is naturally wavy (and will curl when it feels like it depending on humidity, but will never hold a curl when I want it to happen!)

I've tried so many shampoos and conditioners, including the Keratase, but think I've settled on Davies Oi

It's expensive but it works so well. That an an olaplex treatment when in at the hairdresser's, hair is looking so much better.

MrsRoyCropper · 29/11/2018 10:51

To the ladies that have had the Brazilian straightening treatment, what shampoo do you use? I’ve not been able to find a salt free shampoo and understand without this the treatment won’t last?

wineymummy · 29/11/2018 11:02

I have similar hair. I am loosely following CG, but I didn't like doing it full-on (if I encourage my curls on the top of my head I look ridiculous.) This is my routine:
Wash with conditioner only (the super drug extracts ones are CG friendly)
Wash with sulphate-free shampoo only when needed - every 4-5 days.
Don't touch your hair with a towel. If necessary, squeeze out extra water with a t-shirt but the wetter, the better.
Comb through (can't hack not combing.)
Pantene number 3 mousse all through mid-ends and smoothed over the top.
Leave to dry naturally.
Then I get nice ringlets in my hair but it's smooth and flat on top. Much less frizzy. It helps that I work from home and can sit at my desk with wet hair every day. I've tried not 'co-washing' every day but after I've slept on it, it's always a big mess and I can't tame it without getting it wet or it just goes frizzy.

MissFiggy · 29/11/2018 11:03

@hendricksy. I have very similar hair. Can you share what products you use?

Flossie71 · 29/11/2018 11:15

I think my hair is similar but thicker and longer, and had frizz issues if left to dry naturally. I spent many years blow drying it straight and using straighteners and lots of silicone products until eventually it felt so damaged and frizzy (blonde highlights too) that I tried a new regime and have never looked back. I read about the curly girl method and, after some experimenting (and bad phases!) adapted it to work for my hair.

I haven't used shampoo, a hairbrush (I only comb it when wet) or blow dried/used heated stylers for about 5 years. I wash with conditioner (must make sure no silicones in the conditioner or hair products) then comb through a leave in conditioner and a curl styling cream and either just leave to dry like that and it dries ok (sometimes!), if I want a more guaranteed nice wavy look I twist it up into 3 twists on either side when wet and let it dry that way, once dry I have nice soft waves. Or I can scrunch in the product and it is nice for that one day but not so good the following days!

Stopping the shampoo and heated styling tools has made such a difference to my hair. I still have it highlighted but only occasionally.

Owllwo · 29/11/2018 11:17

I’d definitely get a perm
