Grey hair

My hair is about 80% grey and I dye it dark brown. My grey roots are showing up approx 2 weeks after dying. I spat the roots and use root touch up between colouring but I hate all the upkeep. Would dying my hair lighter stop the grey showing through so much? I am only 35 so don't want to go grey yet!

I used to dye my hair dark blond/dark ash blond (am naturally mid brown) it did help the grey blend a little more and could maybe get away with doing it every 4 to 6 weeks.
I however decided to stop colouring it after the grey started showing after 2 weeks, at 40 I decided to take the plunge and haven’t dyed it for 6 months.
