Help? Need a dress for black tie wedding

Im a size 16 (and fat, not just 'large'! although I'm tall so I don't look too awful day to day), everything online looks great on a stick insect model but will make me look awful. I have reddish hair so need to avoid red colours (which seem to be popular for formal dresses) and obviously I don't think black would be suitable. Loads of them are strapless which I don't think will work either.

Anyone got any ideas?

I know you don’t want red but this is a plum colour. There is one review saying it was too long but that’s should work in your favour if you are tall. here
