Sorel winter carnival ankle - do they soften up?

I forgot why I haven't bought sorel before. They have that funny ankle thing going on. I have a pair from amazon that I love apart from the ankle. Will they soften up?

Mine didn’t - in fact they ripped the back of my ankles to shreds and I had to send them back. Do you have narrow feet?
I think this was the problem for me - they were just incredibly wide and inflexible

Tried to wear to work and back twice. So painful!

Yep. I googled too. A few folk seem to break through the pain barrier and they soften up but it's fairly ridiculous.
