I have all the brushes, palettes, and primers. I just don't have the skills.

How can I learn how to do eye make up?

Youtube videos are your friend. I recommend Lisa Eldridge's ones, she's a professional makeup artist who mainly does makeup that real women would want to wear. Not 18 year old Kardashian or drag queen wannabees.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 23/11/2018 13:55

I'm no help but would love to learn.

AnythingConsidered · 23/11/2018 13:58

I second YouTube.

I'm still crap at eyeshadow, but the tips in the videos have made it significantly better than it was before I watched!

Bigonesmallone3 · 23/11/2018 13:59

Online tutorials.. even just looking at pics on google images or Pinterest

DishranawaywiththeSpoon · 23/11/2018 14:02

YouTube videos and practice! Don't try anything too complicated to start with!

I think I was wearing fancy eyeshadow for weeks at work and in the evenings just to practice!

DishranawaywiththeSpoon · 23/11/2018 14:03

Evenings at home that should say

Avegemitesandwich · 23/11/2018 14:08

I think I actually learnt about blending, transition shade in the crease etc from the FB group Mrs Gloss and the Goss when it was a very small group and then went to YouTube from there to get more tips.

I think Mrs Gloss has actually got a bit too big now for those basic tips, but there is also another group called The Beauty Collective and sometimes the girls on there do live videos and they do all the blending and everything.

On YouTube I do like Lisa Eldridge and find her videos very relaxing but I don't learn all that much from them I don't think? Weirdly I think Jaclyn Hill does very good eyeshadow tutorials, her makeup is usually very heavy and Instagrammy but she explains things well and shows the stages of blending. I also like Shaaanxo (I think that's her name, not sure how many a's!) I tend to type in an eyeshadow look I want to recreate, the colours etc and then see what comes up.

The other videos that are good are the 'dos and donts of makeup application ones' as you can see where you might be going wrong in application and they are very detailed.

trumpdump · 23/11/2018 14:11

Can anyone recommend a good video for a basic application?

What kind of eye makeup would you like to learn? I can find you some links if I know what you're looking for.

trumpdump · 23/11/2018 14:30

Something that is simple and natural. Probably 2-3 shades. Nothing Kardashian-like.

These two are quite good I think

Avegemitesandwich · 23/11/2018 14:35

The first video there is quite dark but is a 'dos and don't video' so is just tips for any look really. The video that Shaaanxo does is quite nice for what you are looking for?

Hallouminati · 23/11/2018 14:37

I like Wayne Goss on YouTube - he's done a lot of videos on how to apply eyeshadow.

Avegemitesandwich · 23/11/2018 14:37

Oooh yes Wayne Goss is good.

AdoraBell · 23/11/2018 14:40

Definitely Lisa Eldridge on You Tube.

I haven’t used make up for a few years and have lost confidence with it. Her videos really help.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 23/11/2018 14:43

Second Lisa Eldridge, lovely woman - love her videos has something for everyone, really enjoy the relaxed chit chat going on in her videos with her guest models as well.

adynerfa · 23/11/2018 15:43

Do you have a vocational college near you that offers cheap beauty treatments and hair cuts? The one near me has recently been offering a 1 hour tutorial in doing your make-up or doing your hair for something like £5.

Otherwise, Youtube videos/Pinterest.

SnowyPaws5 · 23/11/2018 15:45

Youtube videos are your friend. I wash just about to say this exact phrase.

Watch Youtube videos. They'll teach you wear to put the eye shadow, how to blend etc.

SnowyPaws5 · 23/11/2018 15:45

Hairyhat · 23/11/2018 15:52

Me too

TantricTwist · 24/11/2018 00:13

I watched the best video's the other day for applying make up and it was by Ali Andreaa. She is brilliant.

AdoraBell · 26/11/2018 19:49

She is good Tantric but I stopped watching her when I saw a video where someone had asked if she ever skips make up. Her answer was - I’m not gonna be a tramp and go out without make-up.
