Nice fragrance for a teen?

My dd will soon be 14. She's just dabbling in small pieces of make-up and fragrance. She sometimes wears a cheap daily 'impulse' type spray. However I'd like to get her something special for Xmas.

She's seems to like my old Tommy girl perfume but didn't express an interest to have her own. She says she smells perfume in other girls and likes it but never knows what it is!

Any recommendations for something I might not have heard of (being very untrendy that I am!)

She likes gentle scents - watermelon, vanilla, fresh floral.
Not full on heavy iykwim?

There's a Ralph Lauren one that smells like peaches. I think its the one in the squat little bottle with a blue band. Very much depends on whether you like fruity things.

Also that pink Lacoste one is very popular with younger girls.

I'm was also actually going to suggest Tommy Girl!

JLo Glow is very clean and subtle as well.

Trampire · 23/11/2018 13:47

Thanks! I'm off for a look. Yes, I still love Tommy Girl, I think dd does too but I don't think she can get past the idea of wearing the same perfume as her mumGrin

I was wondering about the Shay and Blue spray range? They have a good selection at ASOS today. One is called watermelon.

Anyone smelt this brand in rl?

I find body shop perfumes are really light and lovely smelling, and I think it's 40% off today!

CherryMaraschino · 23/11/2018 14:04

I've smelt shay and blue, yes. I found them quite complex, I think I'd want to try before buying.

Chance by Chanel (they do several variations) is popular with the teens I know.

Trampire · 23/11/2018 14:04

Brilliant. Thanks again. Off for another look around.

Chance is light and fresh, a bit pineapple-y to my nose, in case you don't have opportunity to try.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 23/11/2018 14:09

I just came on to say Body Shop. My DDs (8 & 11) love the body sprays and my eldest DD is starting to get interested in some of the more grown up scents. DS (14) also likes the men’s scents.

Or alternatively - what about CK One? I know it’s old now but I see it still advertised lots and I wonder if it’s a good starter kind of one

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 23/11/2018 14:10

I wear Chance! I bought it for the first time when it first came out and I keep going back to it - I love it

Trampire · 23/11/2018 14:29

I think Chance is coming up a bit pricy to take a punt on today. If I'm ever out shopping with her and get the chance to smell it and she likes it, then it's one for the future.

At the moment I've just purchased Japanese Cherry Blossom perfume from The Body Shop. I seem to remember it from my teenage days and liking it. It still has very good reviews. It's not expensive though so may look for another item.

I love beyonce's HEAT perfume. You can get a gift set for around £20. It's a very warm and sweet smell. Lasts a nice length of time. I've been wearing it for years and I'm 22 and if I hadn't just splashed out on Prada Candy I would still be wearing it!

Guiltypleasures001 · 23/11/2018 17:03

I've just been on allbeauty and ordered two of the new body mists by fcuk raspberry and vanilla and tangerines and coconut. They are having their Black Friday event no vat to pay and free del over 20 quid always cheaper than else where I find

Trampire · 23/11/2018 17:30

Thanks Guilty. Raspberries and Vanilla sounds right up her street!

My youngest wears Chanel Coco Mademoiselle which is quite nice and young.

beanaseireann · 23/11/2018 17:47

Zara do lovely scents

MissBattleaxe · 23/11/2018 19:16

I'm a perfume blogger so I might be able to help. If she likes raspberries and vanilla, you should definitely try Anna Sui Fantasia. It's an amazing bottle with a golden unicorn lid. It smells sweet and fruity but not sickly.

I also recommend Chanel Chance as above ^^ and any of the Marc Jacobs. Daisy is a classic now and the bottle is gorgeous.

Also, don't leave Avon out. They do some fabulous fragrance for around £7 each so you could buy her a few and give her a little fragrance wardrobe. Viva la Vita is good, as is Luck, Cherish the Moment and Far Away Rebel. And I'm not a rep, just a fan!

If you find it let me know where - apparently it's been discontinued! I'm gutted as it's my favourite.

whiskeysourpuss · 23/11/2018 19:27

Posted before giving answer to OP!

DD1(18) loves Marc Jacobs decadence, Dior poison girl & Armani diamonds

DD2(17) only wears Britney Spears midnight fantasy which is great as it's always on offer & cheap

TellerTuesday4EVA · 23/11/2018 19:33

DNeice is 14 & at the minute her & her friends seem to be more into the fragrance mists than actual perfume/edt.... especially the Victoria's Secret ones. They're in B&M at the minute for £7... making me the best auntie

peachypetite · 23/11/2018 19:38

Bloody hell I would not be buying Chanel for a 13 year old!
What about Amor amor?

Guiltypleasures001 · 23/11/2018 20:33

My allbeauty buys were just under £8 the vic secret ones I have 3 and can't use them cause they block my sinuses. I'm hopeful the french connection ones will be ok

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/11/2018 21:32

I've seen loads of sprays in VS PInk (when DD buys her knickers)

M&S do a gorgeous range - Island Escape I think .

teta · 23/11/2018 23:16

Dd2 ( 14) likes Abahna perfumes and Shay & blue blood orange. But her favourite is the Body Shop Cherry Blossom. My eldest Dd (19) loves M&S Island Escape. It smells like a really expensive beach salty citrussy bergamot on her but I think it’s too grown up for a 14 year old.
