Oh Beatrice what have you done - if that article in the Mail is true.

AhoyDelBoy · 24/11/2018 09:42

Yes true Curly. If it had been reported stolen though wouldn’t it be returned to the RF rather than auctioned off? Which article @beanaseireann

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/11/2018 09:49

@ADB. I think @beanseiran is referring to the link I posted about Beatrice's boyfriend's complicated romantic life.
doesn't bode well methinks

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/11/2018 09:52

And they thought Meghan's past was complicated!

@itswinetime

Prince Charles has already said that he and Camilla will stay at Clarence House, once he is King, and BP will only be used for official purposes.
I would imagine that WIlliam and Kate will stay at KP.
Its a good 20+ years before they need to decide where they are going to live as King & Queen. George, Charlotte & Louis will probably take over apartments at KP.

Anyway, no-one knows what people will think of the Monarchy once the Queen dies. I Think it is pretty inevitable Charles will be King, but who knows when its William's turn...

I am not a thick racist neither am I naive. I do not want to support any links to terrorism thank you so I will keep an open mind on this one. Any link, however tenuous, is too much for me for personal reasons not racist ones.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/11/2018 09:55

I didn't realise Beatrice was with her ex for 10 years. And then he was engaged to someone else within six months of them breaking up.

Still, she seems to have got on with her life and looks to be enjoying herself so good for her!

Thanks Curly I hadn't seen that. True no one knows what will happen next I still think the split is a non story though.

queenofarles · 24/11/2018 12:09

I'm bit confused with all these renovations/planing permissions, does every Rf member does that?i understand wanting to change furnishing,paint/wallpaper, perhaps changing the ensuite ,but they all seem to request planing permission and end up spending millions renovating grand houses, that look absolutely fine Confused,

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/11/2018 12:16

I think the key word there is "looks" @queenofarles. A lot of country piles look lovely from the outside but on the inside have ancient pipes, poor insulation, damp etc. Maybe that's why visiting royals prefer not to stay at Buckingham palace!

It always tickles me when the grace and favour residences are given quaint little cottage nicknames or described as a flat or apartment almost as if we’re talking about a normal British home.

Inevitably further on in the article it will mention in passing that said “flat” has 21 bedrooms and was just renovated at a cost of £X million.

ElspethFlashman · 24/11/2018 12:52

queen all these random cottages have been converted into bedsits for staff. York Cottage has been too. So lots of kitchenettes and toilets and garages.

I knew someone who worked in Apt 1A around W+Ks wedding. Since Princess M's death it had been used as conference rooms and she described it as being really grotty and shabby and neglected.

You're basically talking about gutting these places and that's before you even get into the dubious electrics and ancient drains and dodgy roofs. And things like rising damp and dry rot. These are incredibly old houses that are basically money pits.

WindyWednesday · 24/11/2018 13:16

21 rooms, not 21 bedrooms.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/11/2018 13:32

Still hardly a cottage though!

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 24/11/2018 13:50

Meh, my house has 11 rooms. So it's twice the size. That's not excessive for people with live in staff.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/11/2018 14:02

I read somewhere that the Frogmore place was home to 5 RF staff, so that's 5 two bedroom flats.
Also it is probably a listed building. A couple of million quid even though a huge amount of money, is probably normal for a high endeavor renovation.

When Kate's apartment was done; I was really Envy that she had 2 or 3 kitchens. A family eat in one and then.a catering one for entertaining. I'm not sure if I.imagined a 3rd; but I know Maria Borallo has a suite of rooms in the nursery.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 24/11/2018 14:04

Would you ever described your house as a cottage though, Elspeth? Never mind one twice the size.

It’s not the size of the accommodation (of course they have massive homes), it’s the description of them that’s amusing.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/11/2018 14:05

I posted some photos of Diana's,apartment taken by Paul Burrell just after she died. It was newly decorated and I thought it was hideous.
In comparison; the interiors of eg Clarence House and Highgrove have been more stylish. PC is definitely a man of taste.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/11/2018 14:07

Calling a giant mansion a Cottage is probably a posh in joke. Frogmore cottage is not like an estate worker's cottage. I can't imagine any of the Royal Family in a 2 up 2 down with an outside privy.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/11/2018 14:11

Going back to the talk of a "split". Its just a bit of embellishment to make a non story more compelling. '"Newly married couple expecting a baby; move to a bigger house slightly outside London"
A bit like "Meghan stamping her foot to wear an emerald tiara".

SenecaFalls · 24/11/2018 14:14

Pokey and dark and old fashioned.

Supposedly, Queen Mary was not particularly find of York Cottage, but had to continue living there even after her husband became king because her MIL Queen Alexandra wouldn't vacate the big house.

Abra1de · 24/11/2018 14:20

I agree with the blog that straw would have been better than felt with that outfit.

Straw isn’t right for November, though.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/11/2018 14:23

@SenecaFalls did edward VII live at Sandringham ?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/11/2018 14:24

@Abrade1
Confused
Which hat?

ElspethFlashman · 24/11/2018 14:40

Yeah "cottage" is hilarious. But it was named in the Victoria era by toffs who never even entered their own kitchens. They probably thought it was positively quaint!

Speaking of kitchens, the kitchen in 1A is easy to find online, it has the famous big cooker hood designed by that arsehole Tony Armstrong Jones.

I don't know if they kept it or not, but that kitchen is a big ass catering kitchen. Apparently they also have a kitchenette for making snacks and tea.

I heard the Nanny doesn't live in, but rather lives over near Nottingham Cottage in the staff quarters by the garages that house a lot of the drivers and other household staff. Those places would be bedsits essentially. Though nobody really knows where she lives of course.
