Socks with loafers - Terrible or acceptable?

I bought light tan loafers and they are slightly too big. I could order the smaller size but I will be walking some distance to work in the winter weather. Are socks a terrible idea with work trousers? They are quite a chunky loafer.

I quite like it especially if they're a funky print like pringle.

I saw a really stylish woman wearing socks with loafers today. She was wearing black slim fitting 7/8 trousers, coffee coloured socks, black loafers, Navy trench coat and coffee coloured scarf. The overall look was really polished.

Personally I don't like seeing socks with loafers. Personal preference though.

I must be getting old because wearing loafers without socks in winter is a bit ridiculous. As Era said you can wear them and still look stylish. Even if they didn't look good I would rather be warm.

I have hidden socks. They fit under most shoes and can't be seen so my feet are still warm.

When I want really warm feet I wear fluffy slipper socks under my boots.

I would wear black socks with black loafers and black trousers, for example, as long as the trousers are reasonably long (not ankle grazers). I think it looks better without but in winter I'd rather be comfortable and warm. The socks need to be thin, though- not sports socks!
