Pockets on women's clothes

I know things like this have been posted before about women's clothes not having proper size pockets. So when I saw the Try Guys doing a video on trying to last 72 hours without full size pockets, I thought I'd share it in here too.

Grin Last autumn I had enough. I bought a dark blue man's outdoor jacket with 16 pockets in different useful sizes. Great. This autumn DS discovered it and wears it to school and I am stuck with a bag again.

Cos always has pockets - I love pockets.
Pockets are a feminist issue I reckon.

WrongSideOfHistory · 17/11/2018 21:40

Pockets are definitely a feminist issue. My work dresses all have pockets - they're fab

Sickoffamilydrama · 18/11/2018 20:35

@WrongSideOfHistory
Where did you get them from? I'm after work blazers with decent pockets if anyone has seen some hate going to events and scrambling around in my bag for business cards.

WrongSideOfHistory · 18/11/2018 20:40

I got the dresses from H&M. They’re really good. I can’t link to them for some reason but if you search “jersey dress” it’s one of the first hits on their webpage.

I also have a couple of fleece blazers from lands end - pockets and it means I don’t need a coat too

Thanks I'll have to take a look, pockets are defiantly a feminist issue. When I was a funeral director it used to drive me insane ( you wouldn't believe what you need to hand for conducting a funeral) all the male conducters had pockets everywhere the women had a couple, and those outfits are often bespoke to the company why they dont bespoke them with some pockets I'll never know Hmm

One of my favourite poems. Sums it up nicely!

I have started wearing men's trousers. The pockets are dreamy. The fabric is sturdy and the cut is roomy. I got fed up of fashion a while ago.

There is a podcast 99%invisable that has an entire episode on the subject of pockets in clothes and why women don’t get proper pockets. Really interesting

Pleased to see that M&S’s new Autograph classic wool coats have inside pockets with button closure for your phone.
Jigsaw went through a stage of having inside pockets on jackets and coats, then they stopped, and now they’re reintroducing them.

bigfatfeet · 18/11/2018 21:40

I love the Try Guys and 99% Invisible - I feel like I have found my people! I had no idea that pockets in women's jeans are much smaller than those in men's - that makes no sense.

My new winter coat has massive pockets and it has revolutionised my life.

WrongSideOfHistory · 19/11/2018 08:44

We should use this thread as a place to post where we've found women's clothes with decent pockets Smile

Harryrotter · 19/11/2018 08:48

Wrongsideofhistory I always wear dresses, I have ones with pockets from boden, h and m and fat face. I also have cardigans from fat face with pockets Smile

Floisme · 19/11/2018 10:09

I find vintage coats and jackets are more likely to have inside pockets, especially the tweedy ones. You don't have to go that far back.

Despite being a fully paid up townie softie, I have a shooting jacket that's a warren of pockets, inside and out (presumably for gun accessories and dead partridges but moving on....) Beautifully warm too.

I've bought men's jackets and coats and had them altered a couple of times. It's partly cos I like that slouchy, oversized fit but the pockets are a definite bonus. Some alterations people won't do shoulders so it's better to track down someone who does before you buy.

CrazySheepLady · 19/11/2018 14:06

I must be alone in disliking pockets! They add unnecessary bulk and spoil lines. I just keep my stuff in my handbag, even when my clothes do have pockets.

nothingwittyhere · 19/11/2018 14:22

CrazySheepLady: so don't use them or put anything in them. There's a lot of us would like to have the choice though.

MrsPear · 19/11/2018 19:51

Lots of dresses and tunics from Sea Salt have pockets too. I have also got a fab maxi from & other stories with pockets.
