Please tell me what I can do to sort my face out. I split with my husband of 13 years in February and feel so old and crappy. I'm only 39, but seem to have aged a lot this year.
I'm thinking of cosmetic surgery, but this is completely alien to me. I wear makeup every day and spend quite a lot on skincare, always have, but what can I dooooooooo?!
Any advice very much appreciated.

You look lovely OP, and not old at all. Smile

Yeah, don't bother with profhilo - total waste of money.

You look gorgeous but there's no secret to any of this.

Botox and fillers - subtly!
Skin tone - acids, vit c and retinol.
Eat well - perricone is great (as already mentioned)
Water and sleep - lots of both.
Great hair. - purple shampoo to tone down the yellow and a good cut.

I’d just go a bit softer with the hair. Try Aveda highlights

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/11/2018 17:10

You are very lovely, just the way you are.
Relax, enjoy being you. 💐

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/11/2018 17:19

You are a very lovely looking woman. Agree with PPs about the hair; that style makes your face look longer than it probably is and a bit of texture and maybe some lowlights would help with that. Step away from the scalpels and syringes, though Wink

@Delatron actually you're right I agree re eyes. My cheeks used to bunch upwards and look weird with one time Botox a young the eyes so nothing around the eyes for me since. But... in fairness... Doesn't work like that on everyone - all down to how muscles work on each individual face. If people have deep established wrinkles they can retain that crinkly smile look even with Botox without creating more but that's just how they work. OP if you were to go for Botox the first time avoid the eyes.

Profhilo however... I'm a big fan. It was when I asked my doc not to Botox my eyes that she suggested it to give me a bit of support around the eyes. I love the subtle effect. You need two minimum and they can cost 300 to 450 each depending on a place so for me it's a treat not an essential.

Around not a young. Bleedin' autocorrect!

fartwhenyoustandup · 17/11/2018 22:37

Thank you so much everyone for the kind words and advice. Yes, my hair needs sorting a bit but I fucked it up earlier this year by deciding that I needed a 'change' and sticking bleach on it. All part of my post separation mental meltdown. I've also been drinking too much and being a bit of a dirty stop out. I'm finally getting back on an even keel now though and am trying to look after myself better.
I'm serious about skincare, using dermalogica for the last 20 years but getting in to other brands now like Paula's Choice. Makeup is my downfall... I live for it.

I look rough in the photo, but I think the main problem with my face is probably what's behind it....my brain. I've had a shocker of a year and I just need a confidence boost more than anything. You've given me that, so THANK YOU!

I might go down the Botox/fillers route. But not for now. I'll drink more water and sleep more for now, and see how it goes. Thanks again. 😘

Interesting mrsbunk, I’d written off Profhilo due to the other thread on it but sounds like you had a good result round your eyes. I don’t want botox there again so will investigate.

Great OP, water and sleep do make a big difference.

Other two things that have scientific backing are SPF daily and retinol.

CS12345 · 18/11/2018 10:27

I am absolutely convinced that anyone on Mumsnet who says positive things about profhilo is doing so for marketing/pr purposes. Don't waste your money. It is truly the emperor's New clothes.

mrsbunk · 18/11/2018 14:30

@Delatron @CS12345

Interesting that people had such different opinions though. I'm deffo not a marketing exec either GrinFor what it's worth though... my doc who's brilliant (and never upsells treatments to me) said that profhilo evidences best in older skin ie. the effect is much more visible. If you look at all the effects pics on the web it is usually on deep lines of women probably in late 50s/60s. At 41 I'm not there yet but I loved the plumping effect that rather than iron me out gave me a lovely glow. It's the glow that was worth it rather than a complete disappearance of the wrinkles. I think that if someone who wants a standard filler effect on their skin when they are 30/40 they'll be disappointed with profhilo.

Woman your gorgeous!!!!!!! I'm 34 and I look way older than you!!! Don't get Botox you don't need it!!! Treat yourself to a nice cut and colour and some nice make up, paint your nails and treat yourself to some new clothes!

SimplyPut · 18/11/2018 23:46

You could rock a fringe! A few low lights will help too.

Honestly more sleep, less wine and more water is the first step. Yoga or meditation may help you feel better too.
The best post break up advice I ever received was this 'treat a break up like major surgery... you need time to rest, lots of sleep, water and good food. You need time to find your way after the change and you need support to do this.'
