Alternative to face powder

I’ve always put a thin layer of face powder on top of my foundation to set it and to stop any shine. However now I’m in my 40s I find this is offsetting the dewy nature of the foundation I’m using and possibly making me feel older. But my foundation just doesn’t seem finished without something to set it. What should I be using instead? Any ideas/recommendations?

Have you tried using a radiant powder rather than a mattifying setting powder? Something like the Hourglass ambient lighting powder or Charlotte Tilbury magic powder would help your makeup stay without the flat matte appearance.

No I haven’t. Would you recommend both of those? Not come across hourglass before.

They are both really nice, personally I prefer the Hourglass as it’s a pressed powder rather than loose like the CT (and I feel like the CT smells not so nice!) but both have a lovely finish.

You can usually buy travel sizes of the Hourglass powders which is a good way to try as they are quite expensive but do last a really long time.

Or how about a foundation that doesn't require powder?

I agree that powder is very ageing when you get older, and just emphasises facial lines and wrinkles.

I have very dry skin so I just use a setting spray instead. You can get mattifying ones or dewy finish ones. My makeup stays put all day!
