Comfortable trousers that aren't jeans

I really can't get on with jeans. Leggings/jeggings with short tops is just wrong. And all my other trousers are more work trousers.
I want some trousers that are smart casual or even just casual that I can wear on my days off. Any help will be greatly received:)

Leggings with longer tops? Have to admit that I only wear them at home and change to go out.

I used to live in jeans, but now I'm not so slim, they're not as comfortable. Jeggings, hmm, I do wear these but find they only fit well when just washed. After a couple of hours they're slipping.

In the summer, linen mix trousers work for me. Winter, I have one pair of khaki green trousers that are a nice soft fabric but a jeans cut. I found them in a charity shop with labels still on - Next, I think. I'm starting to prefer casual dresses with thick tights.

Hush joggers and harems are very popular. Anything with a sporty vibe, MeandEm have lots of athleisure style that are gorgeous.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 16/11/2018 13:52

Have you tried treggings?

Way more comfortable than jeans but smarter than leggings. I wear them all the time.

Sainsburys do some good ones (although they do come up a bit short as you can see so order longer than you think you'll need).

Second harems or joggers

bonfireheart · 16/11/2018 17:54

Never heard of treggings - they do look like the compromise I'm looking for will have a try, thank you!

Also, cargo pants, good examples on My Fashionable 40s

Potplant2 · 17/11/2018 07:42

I’m totally evangelical about these:

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-heattech-velvet-high-rise-leggings-trousers-411608.html?dwvar_411608_color=COL58&dwvar_411608_size=SMA002&cgid=

They’re like jeggings but a lovely soft velvet and warm, and they don’t bag after a couple of hours (even on a full days’s hiking!). Wash easily.

Uniqlo also do treggings if that’s what you’re after, though they don’t call them that (think they call them smart trousers)

Trills · 17/11/2018 07:55

I can second the Uniqlo velvet ones.

niceupthedance · 17/11/2018 07:57

Chords

Cargo trousers (some in Zara)

LaLaLolly · 17/11/2018 08:04

Third vote for the Uniqlo velvet leggings. Thing of beauty and so cosy.

RNBrie · 17/11/2018 08:06

Boden Richmond trousers are really comfy but can be dressed up smart.

DrDiva · 17/11/2018 08:20

Those Uniqlo look lovely - how long are they? I have a 33” inside leg so anything under 31” looks a bit silly on me!

justforareply · 17/11/2018 09:11

What's sizing like on Uniqlo ones pls lala trills potplant?
I'm a river island 10 but some recent Zara trousers medium

Processedpea · 17/11/2018 09:14

Also legging velvet leggings think they're about 32inches uniqlo legging trousers also good and their pull on trousers also the wool trousers are longer and warmer for winter

Potplant2 · 17/11/2018 11:16

Don’t know length but I’m 5’5 and they fit me perfectly and I think I could be a couple of inches taller and they still would.

I think they’re sized fairly true/a little generously. I’m a 14 at the moment and the L fits me perfectly. I’d go for S if you’re a 10 (I think uniqlo does free exchanges if I’m wrong, but check this).

SpamChaudFroid · 17/11/2018 12:53

I'm fully embracing the elasticated waistband since discovering Hush's harems and joggers. Me and Em have some nice ones that I'm coveting. These.

justforareply · 17/11/2018 13:25

Thank you potplant 😊

I do love MN. I'm not a fan of shopping and since I've been on here regularly (about 2 years - I was on education sites before not a fat lot of help in retrospect) I can pick up stuff to freshen up my wardrobe without the aggravation of having to go looking for stuff myself

LaLaLolly · 17/11/2018 13:29

Yes, the cut is slightly generous.

I'm a 14 at the moment and the L fits well,.even a bit roomy (which for a Japanese brand is pretty good)

EleanorLavish · 17/11/2018 13:30

M&S do great slim trousers. I adore ankle grazers.

Cocolepew · 17/11/2018 13:32

H&M pull on trousers .
I got a pair yesterday, elasticated at the back, back and front pockets.

littlemeitslyn · 17/11/2018 15:09

My jeggings from Primark fit really well

DrDiva · 17/11/2018 16:18

Thanks very much! 32" would be pretty much perfect.
