Hi everyone, I have no idea about this because I’ve never had it done before. Can any of you lovely Mumsnetters let me know where is the best place to get rings resized. I’m not looking to pay a lot but also interested in places that will do it while I wait but if they have to be sent away so be it. Thanks.

Find a local independent jeweller.

Smurfie12 · 13/11/2018 09:30

Hi Nearly all jewellers offer a ring sizing, prices will vary depending on style of ring, what type of precious metal and if stones need to be moved etc...I've had a few sized and have never been offered a while you wait service, but that's not to say it can't be done. The cheapest i've paid is £15.00 that was for 3 sizes smaller in a silver ring and the dearest i've paid so far is £45 for a white gold ring to be be made 3 sizes smaller. Hope this helps.

Are you resizing down or up, type of metal, does the ring/s have stones? Best to go into several jewellers and get some quotes.

The only time you will get a ring 'sized' while you wait will be a jeweller agreeing to stretch a plain gold band half to a size up in size.

Seconding local jeweller where you will get a decent job.

Cost will depend on the ring - and whether they can just stretch it or whether it needs more work - e.g. piece setting in or taking out.

You really wont get a 'while you wait' service. Your price will go into the queue of work the jeweller is doing; you don't just jump to the front of the queue. And it's not like cutting a key; it won't be done in 2 minutes whilst you stand watching.

How old is the ring? I got mine resized for free from the place dh bought it

Cocobana · 13/11/2018 09:54

Hi, thank you for all your comments. It’s two rings that I need made one size bigger. They do have stones but they have room on the band. @Iaimtomisbehave1 I certainly wouldn’t expect to jump in any queue lol the reason I asked was because my friend got hers done and waited 45 minutes but she couldn’t remember where she got them done, typical! They are wedding engagement rings that weren’t made in ge uk and they got he size wrong, we got them online and I’m dying to wear them.

Local jeweller sounds good, thanks, knew mumsnet would know. I’ll google to see if can find some to go get price estimate from at my local shopping centre.

You might be lucky, if he’s got nothing else to it might get done right away. Sounds bit too complicated for while you wait though. Good luck!

Depending on the setting type, the stones may need to be removed. It's not as simple as just stretching it a little. The setting may also need to be adjusted. Get in touch with a few jewellers and show them the rings.
