Ripped jeans for over 40's?

OnebusyMum · 11/11/2018 16:22

Ive been looking at ripped jeans for me, not massive rips! My SIL said noone over 40 should wear them. Is she right?
Im off shopping next weekend, then on for a few drinks, so quite casual dress, and was thinking of wearing them for this instead of normal jeans.

It’s all about the cut and style and if it suits your personality.

Bluesheep8 · 11/11/2018 16:27

She is absolutely WRONG imo OP! I'm 45 and wear them all the time. If you like them and they suit your style you should definitely wear them. Your age has nothing whatsoever to do with it!

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 11/11/2018 16:27

Here we go again....

Bluesheep8 · 11/11/2018 16:29

Again? What do you mean?

OnebusyMum · 11/11/2018 16:43

MrsMariaPolouvicka? Im asking a question, based on what someone has said to me!

I wear all kinds, some can look good rolled up with heels for evening or look equally good with ballet pumps or ankle boots. Go for it!

Kez0777 · 11/11/2018 16:47

I'm 41 and have 2 pairs, one faded blue pair that are super ripped. In the winter I like to wear them with fishnet tights underneath. Then I have a grey pair that are just ripped at the knee. Try them on and if you like them then wear them 😃

SilentIsla · 11/11/2018 16:51

Just no. Urgh

tobee · 11/11/2018 17:06

I wear them and I'm 50. And I give no fucks what others think.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/11/2018 17:09

I'm 40 and I wear them, I even have a white pairGrin

CherryPavlova · 11/11/2018 17:10

I think if you don’t give two figs what others think, go ahead and wear them. I can’t imagine anyone I know over about 25 wearing them.
With fishnets tights underneath would certainly cause a few raised eyebrows here regardless of age - except maybe for Halloween.

Just no.

Kez0777 · 11/11/2018 17:12

Cherrypavalova I have my own style and have only ever had complements when I wear them like that. An genuine ones not piss taking ones! And I hate Halloween so definitely not going for that kind of look

tobee · 11/11/2018 17:31

Thanks for the permission Cherry! Grin

spanishwife · 11/11/2018 17:33

I personally don't like them on anyone...

AnyFucker · 11/11/2018 17:34

I wear them in my 50's. I recently bought the H+M faded boyfriend jeans with small rips on the knee and thigh. I only wear them super casual with tee shirts and Birkies or Vans though.

For more dressy occasions I wear dark blue intact jeans.

mimibunz · 11/11/2018 17:35

I don’t like the look of them, but wear what you want!

Bluntness100 · 11/11/2018 17:36

Honestly? I think it's a bit try hard and wouldn't.

TeacupDrama · 11/11/2018 17:38

all ripped jeans look absolutely awful on everyone whether a size 0 thirteen old or whatever but because they are fashion people become convinced they look good and saying they look awful is a bit emperor's new clothes but objectively I think they just look stupid especially in UK when it is cold for 8 months of the year minimum

AnaViaSalamanca · 11/11/2018 17:42

you can wear them even if you are 80, but TBF they are not very stylish anymore, I think they are on their way out, especially ripped skinny ones.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/11/2018 17:46

Well ... I wear ripped jeans for gardening, but they weren't bought that way!Grin

Jack65 · 11/11/2018 19:17

I'm 56 and i wear them. I also wear ripped cutoffs!

Alwaysasparklymoment99 · 11/11/2018 19:21

My jeans literally ripped at the knees and I still wear them. I don't give a stuff. I am 51

Alwaysasparklymoment99 · 11/11/2018 19:22

I would buy distressed no problem but wouldn't actively seek ripped. Its just that my jeans did so why should I throw them away?

ferrier · 11/11/2018 19:24

I think MrsMariaP means it's another thread about whether some item of clothing is too old for someone. The answer of course is that nothing is too old for anyone. If you like it then wear it.
