I currently use Estée Lauder double wear which provides great coverage but makes my skin look very flat and dull. I am looking for recommendations for an alternative.

I like Lancôme Teint Idole applied with a brush

Ellapaella · 10/11/2018 14:52

I use double wear but mix in a bit of The Ordinary coverage foundation with it which gives it a more glowing finish.

Clinique do one called Beyond Perfecting, it’s a really good coverage but not as matte as DW

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/11/2018 21:43

Bare Minerals, Bare Pro is really good.

YSL Touche Eclat was recommended to me in here about 2 years ago along with Dior Star. I had testers and they were both great but I went for the Touche Eclat.
Pricy at £35 but you don't need much.

QueenoftheNights · 11/11/2018 10:57

Dior Star I love it and am older than you. It's light and has good coverage.

Walnutsandsquirrels · 11/11/2018 21:15

Thank you - as a couple of people have mentioned Dior Star, I'll give that a go first

Lloreal Infallible 24 Hr Foundation. I use half a squirt on my 56 yr old face. Good stuff.

TheProvincialLady · 11/11/2018 21:18

I thought you were looking for a foundation that would continue to give good coverage for 50 years or more without having to reapply 😀

Littlemissdemeanour · 11/11/2018 21:22

Another vote for touché eclat YSL- great cover match. I used to wear Dior Star which is also good, however the colour match and consistency with YSL is superior, IMO

They're good at giving samples too-/so check them out!

Ellapaella · 11/11/2018 21:59

@TheProvincialLady 😀now that I'd pay good money for!

tootstastic · 11/11/2018 22:21

If you wanted to splash out, Tom Ford's waterproof foundation is very good and quite glowy, but at £66 it's a bit pricey:

I have had quite a few 'your skin looks amazing' comments whilst wearing it though, so I've continued buying it despite thinking it's far too expensive. A little does seem to go a long way.

Walnutsandsquirrels · 11/11/2018 22:45

TheProvincialLady - I’d be happy to pay ££££ for that 😁

I think over 50 then Les sis more -at 54 I am very happy with Laura Mercia tinted moisturiser.

QueenoftheNights · 12/11/2018 08:01

It depends on what shade you need. I am very pale/neutral and so many foundations suggested here are too dark/ too yellow for me. I've never tried the YSL.

I'd suggest you have a make over maybe at a counter, because the last thing you want is a thick foundation like a mask- it's ageing. Better to use concealer over any flaws and a light foundation (as is the Dior.)

Bobbi Brown foundations are okay if you can find one to suit, and they will do a full make up for you if that's something you fancy.

Jungster · 12/11/2018 08:05

. Love the suggestions. Wanted to try teint idôle.
A cheaper suggestion here n07 serum lift (?) Goes on so easily. Good coverage. Bit dewey but only a bit. My favourite fall back.

Jungster · 12/11/2018 08:07

Bobbi brown also do a foundation with a serum but it is very runny and smells medicinal (pine or eucalyptus) and cover not as good as n07 one. It is called lift i think. Will check later

QueenoftheNights · 12/11/2018 08:44

Wanted to try teint idôle.

It is very high in alcohol. I have had a couple of samples. Nice finish but won't do your skin any good long term with that alcohol and perfume.

Clinique Even Better Glow (Light reflecting) with the illuminating finish is nice if you can find the right shade.

Olivecake · 12/11/2018 08:49

If you like Estée Lauder foundations, they do have an anti aging foundation which my mum wears (late 50s) and it looks great, much more radiant than when she used double wear. I’m pretty sure it’s called perfectionist.

Jungster · 12/11/2018 17:30

Oh thanks @queenofthenights i definitely dont want to use anything high in alcohol.

Elledorado · 13/11/2018 07:07

I stopped using the teinte idole ultra because of the alcohol content and it oxidises like crazy

TheFaerieQueene · 13/11/2018 07:13

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation is the best I have used - I have used pretty much every brand on the market.
