How to look less shit with no money?

I look like some kind of frumpy exhausted witch/schoolgirl hybrid. Im pale (apart from the purple bags under my eyes) with dark hair, it’s very long and thick and wavy. When it’s down I look like Iike a witch. I work a physical job so I always wear it up in either a bun or a ponytail. I am having it cut on Tuesday and I’m getting loads off it as it’s so heavy it hurts when it’s up. I’m taking it up to my shoulders. Can’t do anything about the colour as can’t afford to keep getting root touch ups. I’m short with a belly and small boobs. I can’t cope with underwired bras anymore so I wear the soft sport type ones that support but don’t lift up so don’t give a great shape. I wear converse look a like shoes with jeans and usually a long sleeve basics type top. Everything Is just a bit too small and very worn so my belly overhangs my jeans and I just look rough. I need to make changes but no idea where to start and also have next to no money to spend. I’m talking charity shop shopping here! I’m a cleaner so need to be able to move pretty freely in whatever I wear.

Help.

I follow a tip I saw on here re hair, apply conditioner first. Then I only shampoo the top, so my scalp, rather than all along the hair. To keep frizz well under control I apply coconut oil after washing, comb through and pin it up to dry.

YY to trying on clothes in expensive shops to get ideas. Could you get to the shops early on a Saturday? Yes Saturdays will be busy but if you could get there fore opening time it will less crowded than lunchtime.

Thanks, yes i could get early on a Saturday, I can ask my mum to have DS for me.

I already do the conditioner first tip. I really had to when my hair was still long as it was a nightmare to brush through after washing if I didn’t. It’s a great tip. I’m really looking forward to the first hair wash now it’s short! Grin

consuela I forgot that website existed! Thank you! I used to have to wear all black for work but no uniform provided so I would buy cheap stuff from everything 5 pounds! Will check it out.

I haven’t read the thread and I can’t because I’ve had wine and my eyes are blurry but my best tip is pearl studs.

I got 3 pairs for about £3 in Asda- one is white, one is peachy and one is greyish, they instantly make me look more done up (I’m sure some jewellery purists will say no but they do). And the different tones go with different outfits so match all kinds of outfits.
