I'm here for inspiration too, I have 3 parties in Nov/Dec none actually for Christmas but still parties. I've been searching for dresses but nothing has inspired me. Now contemplating other options ie gorgeous trousers, heels and a wow top, but I'm a busty, curvy tall 14/16 nearly 50 year old and I can't picture myself in any of the outfits the models are wearing. Have you found anything OP?

custardlover · 10/11/2018 00:35

Oh yes please share (also searching!)

CountFosco · 10/11/2018 07:58

Our Christmas works do is mega dressy. Wore the kind of maxi dress that MIL would call a 'gown' last year but carrying a few extra pounds this year so thinking about alternatives, would really prefer to shop my wardrobe though.

Quite like this zebra dress or this floral but not quite enough to buy either of them. I almost bought this velvet dress last year but was too expensive at full price. And I love this COS dress.

Kaisawheel · 10/11/2018 08:15

I've bought this for some some Christmas do's- you have to size up but it's really flattering on Smile joanieclothing.com/product/nadia-lace-overlay-pencil-dress/

I'm looking at this one. I've only one Christmas party with the school mum's.

The work night out is with a grubby bunch of mechanics in a Chinese restaurant so that requires a different look Grin.

DinosApple · 10/11/2018 09:21

@Kaisawheel I love that dress! Sadly not in stock in my size though.

ScarlettDarling · 10/11/2018 09:31

I've got this berry lace dress from Next. Can't attach a link without it taking you straight into my Next account though!

We have an annual diner event to go to, it has a strict dress code, so no knees showing, preferably gowns to the floor, shoulders covered during the meal.

I will be wearing a dusty pink simple evening gown, with a halterneck that drapes down the back. An Italian silk and cashmere pashmina in beige and mink. Cream pearl, white gold and diamond necklace, diamond and white gold stud earrings and a simple tiara in silver with clear zirconia. Mink Ruby Shoos shoes with high heals.

Dh will be wearing his Savile Row dinner jacket and trousers, black silk bow tie, white dress shirt and black silk cumberband.

Dd (16) will be wearing a black and silver Coast silk chiffon evening dress, black, blue and silver silk pashmina, black pearl necklace and black silk ballet style shoes with ribbon ties as she does not do heals. She will be wearing her silver and blue topaz tiara. Female cadets have the same dress code as the adult women and they all tend to borrow their mothers gowns!

Ds (13) will be wearing white long sleave dress shirt, silk black bow tie, black trousers, black leather shoes. This year male cadets are not in uniform.

We are all very much looking forward to this party.

hmmwhatatodo · 10/11/2018 10:02

Occams, could you give us a bit more detail, I’m struggling to visualise your family outfits 😬

Tiaras for a party?! Where do you work?

0ccamsRazor · 10/11/2018 10:05

It is a RAF do hmm and i have several gowns and jewelry that my dd and i use.

madnessIsay · 10/11/2018 10:06

have a few parties but nothing too formal. Not one particular outfit in mind but want the following bits.
Worried about the split on the last skirt though.

Wow 0ccams that sounds very fancy indeed, is it a work thing?

Love some of the outfits here, especially the lace Next dress, it’s very similar to one I’ve been looking at.

I always end up looking for weeks and weeks and ending up with something really meh I don’t feel particularly good in.

Eek sorry for crazy links!

Love the long gold skirt @madnessIsay

And the expensive dress @CountFosco (out of my limited budget however, even in the sale!)

diodon · 10/11/2018 11:33

@jenthehen
Haven't seen these in real life but some of the Bravissimo velvet dresses looked nice in the catalogue

SimplyPut · 10/11/2018 11:41

@StingsandThings where do you work? The velvet would be lovely if indeed knee length. Could wear with tights, boots and chunky knit during the day then tights heels and killer earrings with a clutch at night. Not a fan of the others though.

StingsandThings · 10/11/2018 11:51

At a university, students will mostly have gone by then and dress code is reasonably relaxed. Hadn't thought of jewellery to jazz it up! Nice idea

CountFosco · 10/11/2018 11:54

For my more casual nights out I'll be wearing a copper sequinned miniskirt with opaque tights, ankle boots and a thin knit jumper or my Hush dress, also with opaques and ankle boots. Both cozy but festive enough looking.

Paddington23 · 10/11/2018 12:02

Lovely monsoon dress that I have

ElspethFlashman · 10/11/2018 12:03

I've ordered a couple of things from Hot Squash, they have beautiful long sleeved classy sequin dresses. They're in Debenhams.

I'll probably look dreadful in them though..... Sad

Ted Baker has a couple of nice things at the moment, on the pricier side but you could wear again.

Monsoon isn't great this year. A lot of droopy velvet. And everything over-bedazzled.

ElspethFlashman · 10/11/2018 12:05

Oh sorry Paddington! In fairness I didn't see your dress, which is lovely.

madnessIsay · 10/11/2018 12:21

StingsandThings I like the velvet option. Yes the gold skirt is amazing.

happyjack12 · 10/11/2018 17:32

madnessIsay where is the black skirt from? :) thanks

jenthehen · 10/11/2018 17:35

Thanks @diodon Id spotted that when the brochure dropped through the door but my teen daughter told me velvet was last year and she didn’t think it would flatter my belly 🤪
