Winter wedding guest, three week countdown panic

So I’m going to a wedding first weekend of December. Picked an outfit from the wardrobe when we got the invite.

But I have gone down a dress size since then. Plus I’m not sure it’s,weddings/Christmassy enough.

So help me find a dress! The wedding is all in one place, nice country hotel, so will be warm/dry.

I’m 43, 5’ 4”, size 10/12, 32FF. Dark longish hair. Suit green, dusky pink, red (but don’t fancy wearing all red to a wedding), gold. Don’t suit cool colours. Budget is about £150, could stretch too a wee bit more if can wear dress again over Xmas.

I would wear a midi skirt with pockets in forest green in a heavy jacquard fabric, a cream silk shell top tucked in with a warm very worn under, black tights, black ankle boots in suede. And a little fur jacket.

laramara · 08/11/2018 08:12

Boden Libby dress, green is rather nice.

EleanorLavish · 08/11/2018 08:51

Reiss have a few dark green dresses in.

JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 11:36

I like that dress Eleanor. Might be a bit unforgiving on the tum though.

Had considered that Monsoon one before Florence. Really like the colour of that one but the shape of the other one you linked to. Unfortunately burgundy washes me out totally. I tried looked for a green velvet wrap dress, there’s one in Whistles which would be lovely as a Christmas dress, but I think it’s a bit dark for a wedding. What do you think?

That’s a very pretty dress lara, it’s maybe just not quite dressy enough compared to how I think the other guests will be IYSWIM. There will be some very dressed up, glamorous people there. I don’t want to go totally full on cos it’s not my style but I do need to be at the top end of my range.

That sounds like a lovely outfit Atalune. Unfortunately the only item from it in my possession is black tights and I don’t think £150ish will run to new skirt, top, boots and jacket...

@janetlovesjason The Whistles dress is gorgeous. Very classy. It does look to be a very dark green. but it may just be the way it has been captured. Colours can be deceiving online.

JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 14:39

That’s true Florence. I can always send it back.

I think the Gia dress by Hobbs is a good compromise. Winter colours but a splash of a brighter blue.

JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 15:58

That dress would really suit me without the blue Bubbles. I do really like a shirt dress. It’s says office to me rather than wedding though.

I’ve been lusting after this for a while - seems similar to the Reiss one but not as clingy around the middle.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 08/11/2018 16:03

This is beautiful. I love the shade www.nancymac.co.uk/products/allegra-dress-in-emerald-crepe

JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 16:17

Ooh. Now. They are both really beautiful.

I looked at Coast before, how did I not see that Chansey? The handkerchief hem is lovely.

And moss crepe always hangs so well Florence.

For the sleeveless one I’ve got a gauzy cashmere shawl I got out of a rummage basket at a woolen mill years ago in a green that’s about halfway between those two dresses. Never worn it with anything as it’s too delicate to wear as a scarf. It was just to much of a bargain to pass up at the time though.

For the one with sleeves I’ve got a dusky pink fake fur tippit/stole that’s got a real 40s vibe to it.

Have some rose gold sandals and a silk clutch in a Japanese print that’s got some green and pink in it.

Ooh. Now. I can’t decide.

I could spend a long time on that Nancy Mac site Florence. I love how things are arranged by mod, or by fabric or by colour.

So pretty

And this one too...

@JanetLovesJason I just filtered by green to find as as they have so many!

I’m also now browsing Nancy Mac as I have 2 weddings a week apart next year - thankfully one friends and one family so only one outfit needed. Grin

JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 16:48

I always just scroll though “just in case” Chansey.

Have nearly justified a red velvet jumpsuit to myself in terms of colour and cost.

OP posts:
JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 16:49

The scrolling must mean I miss stuff. I should filter.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 08/11/2018 16:55

Order both and try them on? If you’re near a Coast, you can check if it’s in stock in your size on the website.

JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 16:58

Think an order and try on session is the way forward Chansey. We’re miles from anything so it’ll be the easiest way. There’s nothing on my credit card just now cos I’ve been good lately, so it’ll be fine to get a few things at once. As long as I am strict about sending stuff back.

OP posts:
TakeAChanseyOnMe · 08/11/2018 17:05

It’s on ASOS if that helps but only in a 12. It’s free delivery and returns.

JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 17:07

Ooh, I’ve got the Asos delivery pass thingy. And a voucher for £20 from their old loyalty points scheme. 12 should be about right. Cheers!

OP posts:
JanetLovesJason · 08/11/2018 17:11

It looks lovely in the Asos video. Moves really well. I wish everyone did the video clip thing. It really helps. Especially with shoes. You can tell a lot by how the models walks in them.

@janetlovesjason Lovely stuff on Nancy Mac - I love all those velvet pieces above. They are brilliant to deal with too. Very personal service.
